I don't believe that the Germans were one their toes and worried about the rebels like the author suggests. They all thought the rebellion would soon be over ever since the American army retreated across New Jersey. From all accounts, the Germans were in a festive mood, but not drunk at 8:00 in the morning when they attack commenced. Hung over maybe.

"from this unhappy day onward we saw everything through a magnifying glass."

Best comment I have ever heard.

I highly recommend a book to you called "Rebels and Redcoats".

If you are at all interested in the War years of the Revolution, you'll love that one.

Wonderful, inspirational article. Thanks to our forbears for their sacrifice.
