22 Congressmen Hate Christmas
This year's "War for Christmas" keeping "Christ" in the holiday has apparently been won. And, like many "wars," there has even been a Congressional resolution in support of keeping Christmas alive and well.
On December 15 the House of Representatives passed a resolution "protecting the symbols and traditions of Christmas" by an overwhelming 401-22 vote.
Representative JoAnn Davis (R-VA), the resolution's sponsor, said the resolution was necessary to counter "political correctness run amok."
"No one," she said, "should feel like they have done something wrong by wishing someone a Merry Christmas."
Twenty-two Democrats played Scrooge and disagreed.
Representative Robert Scott (D-VA) said Republicans were more concerned with the symbolism rather than the substance of Christmas referring to Republican passage of a bill to slow the rate of growth in federal entitlement programs. Davis lodged a preemptive response to critics who might question the constitutionality of her resolution.
"Celebrating Christmas is not a violation of separation of church and state," she said. "The Framers intended that the First Amendment to the Constitution would prohibit the establishment of religion, not prohibit any mention of religion or reference to God in civic dialogue."
The text of the resolution read as follows:
Whereas Christmas is a national holiday celebrated on December 25; and
Whereas the Framers intended that the First Amendment to the Constitution of the United States would prohibit the establishment of religion, not prohibit any mention of religion or reference to God in civic dialog: Now, therefore be it resolved, that the House of Representatives
(1) Recognizes the importance of the symbols and traditions of Christmas;
(2) Strongly disapproves of attempts to ban references to Christmas; and
(3) Expresses support for the use of these symbols and traditions, for those who celebrate Christmas.

What a bunch of A-holes.
Much ado about nothing. It looks like the House has too much time on their grubby hands and nothing to be concerned about like, war, taxes, unemployment, terrorist threats, labor unrest, jobs lost to Asia, etc.
Anti-Christian ignorant bigots and/or Marxists, the lot of them. What a sorry, evil collection of degenerates.
Maybe so but they did not start this let's get rid of Christmas movement - it was the god haters - so spare me your "Holiday" correctness - Merry Christmas
This was a resolution, not a bill. Hundreds are passed in this fashion every year.
My representative Mike Honda is on the list. How come I'm not surprised...

And a very Merry And Blessed Christmas to you
Some folks think our side of the culture war should die and that we should let Marxists take it over. The problem is that the culture that supports America's brand of individual freedom and capitalism is one where people have a moral awarness and ambition.
If people are amoral, we need a corporate and Federal police state to keep them in control rather than themselves and each other motivated by a common moral ideal. They think that, magically, Americans just obey the law, are noble and are honest.
That's okay that they beleive this. Our society can exist with folks who don't understand their own lives and history. But if we ever give in as they demand, then we will see the end of capitalism and freedom. Then the anti-social-right-pro-capitalism folks will be whinning about police state socialism and have no idea how to undermine it.
What complete morons. The Republicans want to slow the rate of growth. This means the programs are still getting MORE MONEY!!
Personally I would like to see at least a freeze, if not actual real cuts. But, the DeathoCrats just cannot be happy with anything, even during this wonderful time of year. The entitlement programs are getting more money, and they accuse the Republicans of this crap?
Combine this with the absolutely disgusting Democratic response to the President's weekly radio address today. These people are sick people. I am so glad I was not born to parents like them. Thank you Lord.
MERRY CHRISTMAS
Names not capitalized on purpose.
We need to keep these names available. Election day 2006 is only six weeks before Christmas. What a great campaign slogan for us. Congressman Ackerman is against Christmas.
I'm also glad the Senate took the time to conduct hearings into Major League Baseball steroids.
She looks likes she's taken quite a beating from The Ugly Stick!
