Do abortionists wish each other a Merry Christmas?
Every year one in three pregnancies worldwide ends in an abortion. A total of 40 million abortions are performed each year, which means that since 1980 one billion children have not been allowed to be born. Contemplating Baby Jesus in the crib one may wonder whether the fact that there are 6.5 billion of us today instead of 7.5 billion is a human achievement or not. Some think it is, some think it is not. But why do those who consider universal legalised abortion to be a sign of progress want to force those who regard abortion as a crime to be a part of it?
A European Union advisory panel has issued a statement saying that medical professionals are not allowed to refuse to participate in abortions. According to the EU Network of Independent Experts on Fundamental Rights doctors should be forced to perform abortions, even if they have conscientious objections, because the right to abort a child is an international human right.
The Network, which consists of one expert per EU member state, assists the European Commission and the European Parliament in developing EU policy on fundamental rights. The Network wrote a 40-page opinion stressing that the right to conscientious objection is not unlimited. The opinion was given in connection with a proposed treaty between the Vatican and Slovakia. This treaty includes a guarantee that Catholic hospitals in Slovakia will not be legally obliged to perform artificial abortions, artificial or assisted fertilizations, experiments with or handling of human organs, human embryos or human sex cells, euthanasia, cloning, sterilizations, [and] acts connected with contraception.

Blasphemy!
This is an outrage. They are a bunch of Socialist Nazis! I imagine that they'll throw the doctors in jail eventually like English merchants who dare to use ounces and pounds.
They need to import immigrants to perform the abortions the natives won't.
"International Human Right?" Murder is a human right? Who the heck are these people?
This will work out great, until they figure out that there are podiatrists, psychiatrists, dermetologists, urologists, etc...
What are they going to do, force a doctor's hand to abort? When, in the concept of liberty, did it become proper to force another autononomous individual to act against their conscience, in the absence of clear and present danger?
what about freedom of religion? they shouldn't be forcing docctors to carry out abortions if their religious beliefs prohibit them. isn't EU enlightened?
This is why my aunt quit the nursing profession 15 years ago. The hospital administration made it a condition of continued employment, that the staff had to sign a paper stating they would assist in abortions.
Well, actually, not quite yet, because although hillary worked very hard at the Beijing reproductive rights conference to put this through, the UN leaders and NGOs haven't actually succeeded in doing so, yet.
But if hillary gets herself elected in 2008, it will be one of the first items on her to-do list.
Double ditto!
I guess the Euros are still horified that, despite their best efforts, their replacement rate is STILL above 1.0. More abortions are needed to combat this problem. Can't have too many young white people walking around--it might offend all those new Muslim immigrants.
Amazing. I wonder how many doctors will retire so as to not have to perform abortions.
Must not offend Muslims
It is time to step up and be counted, the Nazis are back.
Seventy years ago, too many Europeans looked the other way when the Nazis started their campaign of genocide and demonization. Nevertheless, though the media cult might prefer we forgot it, many Catholics and other Christians did in fact accept literal martyrdom rather than collaborate with the Holocaust.
How far are those of today willing to go in resisting this monstrous evil? Today's Nazis don't have gas chambers and concentration camps, at least not yet, so is the loss of a medical practice or perhaps a jail sentence really too great a price to pay, in view of the example set by the truly righteous within living memory?
"Never Again?"
Fill the EU's prisons with objectors if need be, anything else would be a betrayal of those who have gone before.
"Every year one in three pregnancies worldwide ends in an abortion."
Where did they get this statistic? It sounds really fishy to me.
Or just come up with some hocus reason that performing an abortion might be detrimental to the mother's health.
That's exactly what I'd do. Turn this abortion argument right over on its head.
"Freedom of choice" but only for the correct "choices."
