The easy answer for the docs is not to be qualified to perform them. GPs don't do abortions, nor do allergists or dermatologists.

IIRC California, seeing the dropping number of doctors qualified to do abortions tried to mandate the training. Not sure where it went.

That's exactly what I'd do. Turn this abortion argument right over on its head.

Mayor Bloomberg saved abortion. He made it mandatory for medical students to take abortion ib all NYC hospitals. 1 in every 7 doctors in the U.S. is educated in NYC and those schools are very influential. Schools around the country have followed suit. I believe California is included in that. There usually isn't an opt out for coscientious objectors.
