I'll give you a serious answer anyway despite your idiotic attempt to win by namecalling.

No, NO you misunderstand, or I did it wrong, my call to others on the Liberal side to join you and others in finding a breakthrough.. I am so sorry

And yes, marriage IS a private matter. You didn't vote on my marriage and it was not a public event.

I'd be willing to forgo a wall at the border. I think the liberals are right in that it portrays a negative image for America.

They're doing everything they can to make that into a self-fulfilling prophecy. That doesn't mean anyone has to carry their water for them.

There are all kinds of things we've done since 9/11/01 that have "carried a negative image for America" (that is, met with the disapproval of socialists in other countries). If we weren't willing to bend to their demands for those things, why would we be willing to bend to their demands when it comes to exercising one of the most basic rights of sovereignty, the defense of our own borders? Let the hypocrites mewl.

One thread I always thought would be interesting (maybe I will start one after the New Years), was what issues are you to the "left" of Free Republic.

Two for me are "Gay Marriage". I think you and I would pretty much agree with each other. Although, I am not quite ready to concede with State and Federally recognized marriages (joint tax returns, etc.) I do not believe that anyones "relationship" affects my wonderful marriage at all.

I hate the agenda of liberals trying to tell others that their religious beliefs are bigoted, and I think that all parents have a right to teach homosexuality is a sin, so the school diversity programs peeve me off, and that is why I will vote next year, in Wisconsin, for the recognition of a marriage between one man and one women only.

The other issue I am to the left of many Freepers is the death penalty. Although in theory I have nothing against it, let's face it, if you are rich, and you can afford better counsel, you have a much better chance of life in prison, than if you are poor. I think that until we can come up with a system that judges all, regardless of income, the same, the death penalty is not a fair system. And that bothers me a lot. I wish all "capital" murderers got life without parole.

I think we could find common ground with liberals on free speech, if they would discipline themselves to accept that it applies to all, even to those that disagree with them.

Carlo, I can't think of how many ways to say No to your proposal:

In a word, No.

Absolutely not.

Hell, No!

When hell freezes over...

Sorry, buddy, but I agreed with and lived their worldviews for 23 years and it all leads to death. No way will I inch back towards their side of the fence to find "mutual" ground. There is none.

Dear Liberals,

We are obviously living in parallel universes and nothing either one of us says re: politics is ever going to change to mind of the other. So, I unilaterally refuse to have such discussions any more, especially when I have no way to escape from your odious presence.

Merry Christmas, and Krazy Kwaanza to you!

I'll trade the Death Penalty for a return to hard labor gulags for the worst-of-the-worst criminals.

Other than that, I prefer we move quickly to a civil war and settle it once and for all with Liberals and their Hollywad/MSM co-conspirators in open combat. That's what they keep threatening, and I'm still waiting for them to BRING IT ON!

Your creeping homosexuality argument is already in play.

Of course it is. Recognition of same-sex "marriage" is a huge advance in that direction. Surely you can see that.

You don't deny individual people liberty, freedom, and equal government access because you are fighting some monolithic societal change.

And no one's suggesting doing that. Homosexuals have the same rights as heterosexuals when it comes to marriage. Any man can marry any (non-related) woman, regardless of the sexual orientation of either or both of them. You're making the mistake of assuming that someone's "equal rights" are being denied to him because the law doesn't accomodate his desires. But that's not what "equal rights" means.

WE both sides need to crank it down just a tad.. I don't have anymore tolerance for their hatred of our President than they must for my rant about the Gay stuff but it is America, and many of us did fight for all of our rights to be wrong.. I agree with you my dear girl FREE SPEECH IS A START.. Thank you, and a very Merry Christmas.. :)

I could agree to a real hard life without TV, cigarettes, weekly visitors, and endless appeals, life without parole.. If they want to choose to live with that I'll give in..

marriage is an issue of liberty, pursuit of happeness, and equal access to government. If that's inconvenient to you because it's part of some agenda or societal creep your holding your finger in the dike (pun intended) to stop, that's your problem. It's lazy to take every issue and fight it because some homosexual might benefit.

Homosexual marriage is a huge advance. I think it's something that is worthwhile for the reasons I stated before. But I will also add, it doesn't effect me one bit and it's none of my business if some guy wants to marry another guy. Why is it any of your business.

It is not equal rights to marry, if the government says you can't marry the person you want. What is the public protection or great government concern if two guys get married? Are you some kind of nanny-stater?

That first post about asbestos undies was quite appropriate.

Carlo, we've trying to get along with these people for at least 50 years. They're not moving toward the Center. Whenever WE DO....they move the goalpost a little further Left. Another post above nailed it: our ideological opponents are indeed the "give an inch, take a mile" crowd.

While I applaud your attempt to reach out across the vast abyss that divides America at this one time of year when compassion and compromise are the MOST possible.....It just ain't gonna happen. The Left LOATHES us. They look at us as something alien, and subhuman, a failed evolutionary cul-de-sac of political thought. There can be no quarter given in this struggle. The Left plays to WIN.

And it's way past time where we should to. Good post though, and Merry Christmas.
