WASHINGTON, Dec. 23 - The National Security Agency has traced and analyzed large volumes of telephone and Internet communications flowing into and out of the United States as part of the eavesdropping program that President Bush approved after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks to hunt for evidence of terrorist activity, according to current and former government officials.

The volume of information harvested from telecommunication data and voice networks, without court-approved warrants, is much larger than the White House has acknowledged, the officials said. It was collected by tapping directly into some of the American telecommunication system's main arteries, they said.

Yup. They are publishing information about classified programs and THAT is very illegal and punishable by fines, jail time or both.

Liberals do not care about breaking the law if they do not like the law. Law against same sex marriage? Ignore it. Law against illegal immigration? Throw it out. Law against releasing classified information? Ignore it, no matter the consequences.

Someone MUST go to jail for this: The leakers, the NYSlimes Editor, ex-government officials, whomever.

Are we a nation of laws or not?

there is nothing new here - NSA has been doing this for a long time with overseas data - the media is simply "re-spinning" these stories as part of the "warrantless wiretap" story.

Is it just me...or is the NYT stuck on stupid.

I want my government to fight back against an enemy determined to kill civilians.

This is the 21st century. New kind of warfare...New way to fight back.

The MSM Leftist democrats suffer paranoid delusions.

Idiots.

Carnivore has been up and running a long time and this was before Bush and it is legal. The liner of my bird cage forgot to tell this part of the story.

Darn - and here the Democrats have tried so hard to protect these people from wanting to blow our childrens arms and legs off and dancing in the streets afterwards.

What a blow to Civil Liberties everywhere that liberals were unable to protect terrorists from communicating together.

They remember the folks who violated the laws in the 70's to bring down Nixon and get us out of VietNam. Those are heroes of the left. The NYT is reliving it's glory days and hoping they can help bring down this President. Laws on the books are pretty meaningless to zealots.

Yeah, they will pull it, but I understand your feelings. However, the terrorist would never ever not even once attack their unpaid fifth column also known as the New York Times.
