Was thinking along the same lines.

Large intestine is where the fecal matter collects.
If ruptured and contents spill into the abdominal cavity bad stuff can happen.
Peronitus </sp gangrene etc.

Lets all hope Ole Bob has a slow, painful lingering death.

The will have to open him up and suture the bowel and lavage the peritoneal cavity. Unfortunately with good care and antibiotics he will recover.
