LAWRENCE, Ind. -- Authorities in Lawrence unwrapped an elaborate drug trafficking scheme Thursday.
Police intercepted 75 pounds of marijuana they said was being transported from Texas to a hotel in Lawrence.
The drugs were found wrapped in coffee grounds to cover the smell and disguised as Christmas presents.
Officers said it's just one of many schemes traffickers use to move drugs.
"They try everything, but
when they go discarding what they've wrapped it in, it's a telltale sign of a trained investigator that deals in narcotics," said Lawrence police deputy chief Jack Bailey. "They know certain things to look for and this is one of the things they look for."
Three men were arrested in Thursday's bust, but Lawrence police officers and state troopers said more arrests could be coming.
The marijuana had a street value of between $75,000 and $100,000.

Packed in coffee grinds like they were trying to evade the law? No, that can't be!

Doesn't one normally store wrapped Christmas gifts in coffee?
Of course, I'm now wondering what they're REALLY selling at my local Starbucks....

Interesting how the government goes sniffing coffee grounds for pot and everything is OK
But if they use geiger counters to sniff out dirty bombs/ nukes everyone seems to go crossways.

What does the government have against free enterprise? They'd get only a portion (through taxes) of a legal regulated drug trade, whereas they have a monopoly on the war on drugs.

The WoD's is a losing proposition...Save the billions it cost in police interdiction, and put it into information and education. Freedom means being free to fail or succeed. Losers will always do drugs. Smart people make smart decisions.

If they really found discarded Christmas wrapping and coffee ground, these 'trained investigators' were probably already onto these guys from a snitch.
I doubt seriously that Kansas drug cops are going through everyone's garbage in that state looking for 'certain things we are trained to look for."
