BOSTON New York, Massachusetts and Rhode Island were the only states to lose population from 2004 to 2005.
The U-S Census reports that New York lost 26-thousand residents, a tenth-of-a-percent decrease. Massachusetts also had a tenth-of-a-percent decline, losing 8-thousand. Rhode Island lost about 3-thousand, or three-tenths of a percent.
Experts attribute the trend to soaring housing costs, a stagnant job market and the arrival of fewer immigrants.
Most of the states with the largest population growth are in the South and West. Nevada, with an estimated population increase of 3-point-5 percent, was the fastest growing state for the 19th consecutive year, followed by Arizona, Idaho, Florida and Utah.
The nation's population increased by 2-point-8 (m) million, or point-9 percent, to 296 (m) million.
Gad! I've got commercial property in west Texas hardly worth your tax bill! Trying now unsuccesfully to sell it.

Hello, Conservativegreatgrandma and fellow Rhode Islander. So few of us reside here, I just had to say "Hi."
Merry Christmas
I think my tagline provides a clue to New York's problems. Sadly, liberalism is being exported to otherwise Red states as a result of the exodus.
Merry Christmas to you, too. I love RI in spite of it being so liberal. I hope to get back there this summer.
Btttt, they keep coming here and drinking water we don't have to begin with.
Someone just told me that George Clooney and Brad Pitt both bought homes in St. George????? why?? They are way too liberal for Utah.
Wait a minute -- we are all forgetting something -- truly awful, but true.. NYC is the abortion capital of the USA, I'm willing to bet California isn't far behind... so maybe we will outnumber them due to the birthrate (over time)? We could solve a lot of this problem everywhere if we fixed the mess we call our University system and the brainwashing professors like Ward Churchill.
Here in Florida, my town(Port st. Lucie) has 9,000 single family home permits already in progress with 20,000 scheduled for '06. Which doesn't include new business, road construction & condos.
Kerry & Kennedy must be very happy with themselves.
"I fear enough dems will move to Red state to foul the purity."
Nah. Let 'em move; that gives Red States more Congressional seats and fewer in the Blue States. Places like Michigan and New York have been losing seats in the House of Representatives for the past two decades. The 2000 Census gave Bush a hefty edge in Electoral Votes before the 2004 Election was held.
Idaho has a lot of mormons and a lot of Northeasterners seeking good skiing for once.
Ohhh..Any tax accessors only get to look outside. All curtains are drawn, and they are never invited in.
