Today Show's Misleading ANWR Mountains
Posted by Mark Finkelstein on December 23, 2005 - 07:31.
In reporting what it called a "big win" for Senate Democrats in killing off drilling in ANWR, this morning's Today show aired footage of gorgeous snow-capped mountains, similar to the file photo to the right.
There's only one little problem. The drilling in ANWR won't take place anywhere near those mountains.
It will occur on barren coastal plains far away. A few years ago, attempting to break through the ice-jam of blather over the issue, the National Review's Jonah Goldberg took a trip up there himself. Here's one of the photos Jonah took, giving an idea of the area in which drilling would take place. Them's some mighty small mountains!

Let em keep patting themselves on the back. Before long there will be so few viewers to watch their pap, lies and distortions that we the new media will become the msm. It's happening. And as long as they keep up their lies and we keep putting forth the truth their audiences will continue to shrink and ours will grow.

Hey, that's what liberals are for! If we didn't have the their services, why, people might actually become prosperous and happy, and we can't have that now, can we?

Thank you for sharing those photos. I had been looking for those exact ones for at least a couple of years. They are from here:

We know the truth what ANWR looks like where the drilling will be. What puzzles me is so far I have seen almost no photos either in the MSM or FOX. FOX disappoints me tremendously. Talk just doesn't do it. What's up with FOX for the last year. Beginning to lean liberal. RATS get 2/3 of the talk time and we are lucky to get 1/3 of what's left.

Great post BTS.
As you have correctly diagnosed the rat sailors have invested hugely in "all oil drilling is bad" and "if GW wants it we don't".
With those two idiotic ideas steering their ship they will constantly slide form iceberg to whirlpool as they sail the bumpy DNC/rat infested oceans of the political seas. Eventually they will sink. The question is how many surrounding smaller boats they will take with them when they do.

I have to agree with you- FOX is increasingly leaning leftward. I have a slight hearing loss, so I use the captions and it's just hillarious the things that are intentionally left out- obviously a lefty doing the captioning! And I'm surprised to hear anchors on FOX perpetuate the "domestic spying", "spying on Americans" bias with regard to the NSA leak. [Shakes head]

I would like to propose a Bill before the senate or house that would make it LAW for any US media outlet to run any files, be it photos or video or audio without a date stamp. I remember the Guantanamo Bay issue that was going on and the media, FOX News included kept playing years after file footage of the terrorists in Guantanamo in those chain link fences. Did you know that they were only in those conditions a couple months?
The media has full access to Guantanamo why didn't they update their file footage? I strongly feel any file footage should have a date stamp above or under where it says file footage. I have also seen similar misuses when they talk about Iraq then they show OLD file footage of a car bombing or something. How are people supposed to think the war is going when they keep seeing the same footage? Maybe if the footage was dated some of this confusion would be cleared up.

Fox News Channel also had some pristine wilderness pictures complete with snow-capped peaks and Rocky Mountain Goats frolicking on the slopes which they claimed was ANWR. They didn't explain that this area was hundreds of miles from the mosquito-infested mud flats where ANWR drilling would take place.

Hypocrisy is my biggest gripe against these people. They do not want other people to use fossil fuels while they drive huge gas guzzlers for status and live in humongous homes that use enough fuel to supply a dozen ordinary homes.

what possible purpose does lying about ANWR serve? Its not just about ANWR. Its all about protecting the Democratic Pary and their constituents. The vast majority of the liberal media votes Democratic and routinely slants their reporting to support the liberal agenda, whatever it may be. The media writes lies and distorts the news all the time, only in this instance its about pictures. ANWR is an interesting case. I believe there's something like 10B barrels of oil up there just waiting to be extracted. A littly lying about ANWR serves multiple purposes: cast Bush and Republicans as being out to destroy the environmment; keep energy prices high to make Bush look bad; suppress positive news about Republicans trying to solve the domestic enery problem; protect the intrests of the party-supporting environmentalists.

" Yep, and they will be the first to squeal like a pig under a gate when the price of gasoline goes to $5.00 a gallon! " ......
Yup, and they will blame it ( it's all part of their partisan plan to get back in power, to fool the public ) President Bush and the Republicans for the high oil prices, and gas prices.
They will show pictures off poor families and have special reports on TV about poor families trying to survive in the winter with the high energy cost......
opps ?
They already done that after the price of gas went up after hurricane Katrina.
I can't stand the Liberals/Dem-go-rats/MSM lies, bogus propaganda, and distortions that they try to fool the public with.
