Fox Turns to Texas PR Firm (who also worked on Bush's campaigns) to Shape Mexico's Image in U.S.

President Vicente Fox has rehired the Texas PR man and political consultant who quietly helped engineer his election victory in 2000. This time, though, he wants Rob Allyn & Co. to put the brakes on what many Mexicans see as growing anti-immigration, anti-Mexican sentiment in the United States....ALLYN, WHO ALSO WORKED ON BUSH'S PRESIDENTIAL CAMPAIGNS, now faces a bigger challenge with the migration issue....

..."Our focus is on public opinion, which influences policy outcomes in Congress," said Allyn, 46, who grew up in Huntington Beach and moved to Texas when he was in high school. "There is a huge misperception among the U.S. public about Mexico."

Mexican Foreign Minister Luis Ernesto Derbez said Allyn's message should be that Mexicans have sunk deep roots in their U.S. neighborhoods and that they contribute more to society through their work, taxes and families than they take away in public services.

Allyn, whose firm is now owned by Fleishman-Hillard, said he'd like to talk about the two countries' trade ties and the importance of Mexican labor to the U.S. economy. He'd also like to survey Americans' attitudes on Mexico and Mexicans.

"We're not going to be their Washington lobbyists," he said, "but I want to be honest about the point of influencing public opinion to help change attitudes about Mexico, about immigration, about border security."

Fox's former foreign minister, Jorge Castañeda, said such a task would require more than a public relations firm.

"Allyn is perfectly competent," Castañeda said. The two men worked together during the Fox campaign. "But the Mexican government has to use the embassy, the 45 consulates, and they all need to be speaking with the media, debating these issues and taking the case to the American people."

Yeah, good luck with that, Vicente. Your citizens should appreciate the waste of their pesos on this nonsense.

I've heard this guy on three programs now, and all he does is get yelled at by the host and tick me off even more. One point he's made every time is that 95% of the "immigrants" coming here from Mexico had jobs before they left Mexico. Even assuming it to be true (a stretch), I have yet to figure out why he thinks that's some kind of positive thing or excuse.

The report mentions how much Mexicans hate foreign, particularly American, involvement in their internal affairs. They obviously have no shame about their own very conspicuos meddling in internal U.S. affairs. This is just another example of the extreme Mexican hypocrisy.

They (Mexico) can spend all they want with this PR 'slug' [from Dallas] but the only one's to be convinced it's a good thing are the illegals that are already here & the demonRATs who need their illegal votes.

About all Fox is going to do is anger folks even more. This is like the bank robber hiring a public relations firm to help him avoid a prison sentence.

Fox, you've abused our system for some time. It's over!

If you want better press, quick f-ing with us.

LOL, perhaps Fox and his new PR firm can accomplish what the entire MSM, NGOs and most our own politicians have failed to do.

Nobody is buying what they’re are selling.

Will Allyn or his company have to register under the Foreign Agents Registration Act? Hopefully one of those who interviews him will ask him that.

Maybe someone could call his offices and ask them if they've already registered or plan to do so.

Yeah, and we can't even buy what they're selling.

Until Mexico opens its coastline up for Americans to buy in droves to retire to and have as beach homes, I see no reason to even do anything but laugh at this garbage.

Not that it's a fair trade, anyway, but the fact that they think they're entitled to the rights of American citizens when Americans can't even be entitled to Mexican land is pathetic.

Although it'll never happen I'd like to see a real two way frank discussion about what they "contribute" to our society. Sorry, I don't see billions in welfare, thousands of them in prision for rape & murder, giving half assed service in fast food restaurant as much of a contribution. Looks like Allyn's approach is will be the usual fluff about them doing jobs Americans won't do and all those taxes they supposedly pay.

You can have my answer now, to what I think about Mexico and Mexicans. I 'love' Mexico and Mexicans as long as it and they stay on their side of the border.
