Wife of Joel Osteen Asked to Leave Plane

HOUSTON — The wife of the pastor of the nation's largest church was asked to leave a plane after she failed to comply with a flight attendant's instructions, the FBI said Tuesday.

Houston Lakewood Church pastor Joel Osteen, his wife, Victoria, and their two children boarded a Continental Airlines flight from Houston to Vail, Colo., Monday. The plane's door had been closed when Victoria Osteen and a flight attendant had a disagreement.

"She failed to comply with the flight attendant's instructions, and they were asked to leave the flight," FBI spokeswoman Luz Garcia said without elaborating on the disagreement.

The FBI reviewed a report from Continental after the incident, Garcia said. No charges will be filed, she said.

The flight was delayed more than an hour while the Osteens' luggage was retrieved, Garcia said. The family took another flight to Colorado, where church spokesman Don Iloff said they were skiing Tuesday.

Iloff called the disagreement with the flight attendant "minor" but would not say what happened.

"In semantics, they might have been asked to be removed," he said. "Really, it was more of a mutual thing."

Continental spokeswoman Julie King would not discuss the disagreement but said in a statement that the situation was resolved.

Osteen's sermons are broadcast across the country and his book "Your Best Life Now" has become a best seller. His church has more than 30,000 worshippers weekly and meets in a renovated arena where the Houston Rockets once played.

Just an aside to this Osteen flap. My parents attended a large church in Jacksonville for period time in the early 1990's. It had two pastors, and both were very well paid (six figures, IIRC). My Dad said it didn't bother him in the least. He reasoned that they were two dynamic men and both could likely make much more than the church paid them if they'd chosen careers outside the church. My guess is that the members at Osteen's church feel the same way.

This sounds like much ado about nothing. Two women ran afoul of each other and because one woman was well known it was news. One woman probably had a migraine headache and the other had PMS and they clashed, big deal. I am a former sufferer of both of those afflictions and I have both caused a scene and gotten my feelings hurt because of them. Both women probably did their part to cause this and it should have never escalated to where it did.

Compared to Billy Graham, whose salary he derived by taking the average income of his parishioners?? Graham lived in a ranch house and drove an old car. I'll bet the Osteens lived in a palace before the book deal!!

Osteen is a Christian?

That one's probably best left up to God.

If that's how you feel, then you shouldn't attend his church.

As strange as this may seem, I happen to know somebody on the plane who knows exactly what happened.

It seems Mrs. Osteen demanded to be seated in First Class even though she hadn't bought First Class tickets. No amount of coaxing could convince her to take her seat in coach until a Flight Attendant whispered in her ear that First Class wasn't going to Vail.

I have yet to meet a drop dead gorgeous woman who is even remotely attractive without all the makeup that makes her drop dead gorgeous.

Victoria Osteen and FBI have different views on what occurred aboard airliner (Houston Chronicle, 12-22-05)

Montrose Co is the worst! I'm speaking from experience. I can't understand why these people with so much, can still be so miserable and nasty.

"She said Victoria Osteen pushed a flight attendant and tried to get into the cockpit."

ANYONE who's unauthorized to do so yet tries to get into the cockpit should be shot on sight by any air marshall on board. Whether or not this story is true is irrelevant to this fact.

We can not risk another 9-11.

"Well Joel says GOD wants everyone to be rich and have Gold Star Treatment that is actually what he said in one of his sermons.. "

I thought Jesus said something about the difficulty of a rich man to enter the Kingdom....and that, to follow Him, one must cast off all worldly possessions? I guess Osteen and countless others are reading a different New Testament.
