Anyone have any further details? This is horrible news for Coach Dungy. What an amazing man he is.

which is EXACTLY why I am picking the Colts to win...

Huh? You are picking them to win because they don't need to win and don't want to play the game?

and I am not convinced Seattle as great as people are saying they are

This has little to do with whether Seattle is "really that good". First of all, Indy has NOTHING to play for. All of their scrubs will see playing time. The starters MAY play a HALF at the most. Meanwhile, Seattle is still playing for the #1 seed. They WILL play their starters the whole game to clinch.

Why do you think Seattle is favored by a TD+ in this game? If this were a regular game, the COLTS would be a slight favorite. It's not and the oddsmakers know it. ANY good, playoff calibre team would beat the Colts at home when the Colts are pulling their starters early in the game. Look back to last year. Indy played at Denver, Manning played for a series and then the Colts got smoked by the Broncos who still had something to play for.

Seattle was going to win this game BEFORE Dungy's family tragedy. Now, it's even more certain.

Agreed. I just had a friend die last week - age 21, sudden, found by his fiance. Immediately people started saying suicide, which hurt the family so much. He died accidentally.

ummm ok....Seattle wasn't going to win this game for certain. if Indy was still unbeaten I figured they would have a better than even chance, but since INdy has been beat, and considering they are playing the absolutely crappy Cardinals, look for the Colts to come out with all the stars playing.

we will see on Saturday....

Agreed, but that's not the case.

Did you read my post? Yeah, the stars are coming out all right. They are coming out of the game long before it's over. Again, why do you think Seattle is favored by a TD+??? If Indy still had something to play for and was going to play to win, THEY would be favored.

The gameplan will be the same next weekend. The starters will get a little work and then sit down.

These are nothing more than pre-season games now for the Colts.

I don't know what you are thinking.

The Colts players are going to play a majority of this game. If they don't it will be nearly a month before they get any meaningful work because they won't be playing next week.

And Seattle is STILL over-rated.

This i very upsetting. Tony Dungy is a wonderful person and a credit to everything he touches. Would that others emulate his kindness and drive.

I will send prayers for his enduring this heartache. GOD will see him through this tragedy.

For some reason, the AP is running this photo with the story:

I'm thinking that Dungy has already said that he is pulling his starters.

it will be nearly a month before they get any meaningful work because they won't be playing next week.

They may or may not play some next week. I wouldn't be surprised to see them make a token appearance, as Dungy has had them do in the past.

The Eagles were in a similar spot last year. They played their 15th game of the season at St. Louis. Pulled the starters after one series and got spanked. Got spanked at home the next week by Cincinnati. Rested 2 weeks and smoked the Vikings in their first playoff game.

And Seattle is STILL over-rated

I would agree. They benefitted from playing in the NFC West. They are probably no better than the other top NFC teams, and I would take the Bears over all of them in Chicago. STILL, ANY of the top NFC teams would win this game in Seattle's shoes. They are playing to win. Indy is not. They are treating it as a regular season game. Indy is treating it as a pre-season game (BTW, they went 0-5 in the preseason).

I thought "accidental death" was the euphemism for drug OD among "celebrities" and their relatives as in "He didn't mean for that speedball and percocet to kill him, just get him stoned."

I disagree. There are worse nightmares for families.

I'll take your word for it. I'm sure you're right, but it's still a real bad deal.

Yeah, but after Dungy's loss, the players will want to play hard and win for him.

Yeah, but after Dungy's loss, the players will want to play hard and win for him

I'll just repeat what I said to MikeinIraq:

"This is a meaningless game for the Colts. The last thing they will feel like doing is playing a football game. If it was a very important game, sure, they could go out there and win one for Dungy. Winning this game, however, wouldn't do a thing for the team or Dungy."

Do the players want to do something for Dungy? Absolutely. I wouldn't be surprised to see them dedicate themselves to winning the Super Bowl for Dungy. To do that, they need to be healthy. They are already very banged up after an extremely physical game against the Chargers, another reason some of their top players won't see much, if any, action on Saturday. This team will be remembered for what they do in the playoffs this season, not this game.

I used to live in Indianapolis. I was running errands and heard the news and immediately called my family. Coach Dungy is truly a family man. My heart and my prayers go out to him and his family and I am praying that God will help them through this terrible time. Losing a child is just the worse thing I could imagine.

This is horrible news; the coach is such a nice guy.

I concur. I've seen Tony Dungy do postgame press conferences and he's a class act. Coaching pro football and raising a family is a pretty tough job, but from all accounts by those who know Tony Dungy, he's done a great job with both.

The tragic and tough part of this is for the family and friends to not know what drove James Dungy, by all accounts a smart kid in school, easy going, quiet, well mannered, and well liked by so many, to take his own life.

Sunday's Indy/Seattle game is already being billed as a preview to the Super Bowl in the sports press.

His Mother I had as a teacher in Jackson, Michigan where we both grew up. He was just finishing College at Minnesota then. She was one of the nicest people, and most respected in the school. The people that took her classes and this is just high school, stood out from the rest. Still remember her fondly.

She passed away during the turmoil leaving Tampa. He never said a word in the press. I respect him greatly. The only time I ever saw my father cry was two years ago this week when my sister passed away at 47 from the flu. His only comment was that your not supposed to bury your children. God bless him and his family.

Thanks for sharing.
