local radio station here is reporting that it was an "apparent" suicide....I don't know how they would know that but for the fact they have some "inside" information...

About ten years ago, the sister of a co-worker committed suicide about two weeks before Christmas, but before she did it, she bought and wrapped Christmas presents for her family, which they found when they discovered the body. In her depressed state, she could not understand that this gesture made things worse, not better.

But even mentioning that the girl who took her own life was not wise, alert, or considerate enough to not wrap the presents before her death is just less than intelligent by you. When she bought and prepared the presents she probably had no intent of killing herself.

I had a mother and a father take their own lives. No matter, your comment is just not too smart.

Without wishing to be too crass, I would say it's too bad "this gesture made things worse (for the family), not better." I'm surprised her family passed that little detail along to you. I think it was rather selfish of them, to be totally honest.

Now ................ do not bother replying. You're unawaited and unneeded reply will "just make things worse".

I'm wondering just a little about the girl friend's actions that night. The articles seemed to mention that she returned to the apartment at around 1:30 a.m. and found him. I wonder where she had been and when she had been at the apartment most previously.

The point I was trying to establish is that conclusions or even suggestions of impropriety, in the absence of any evidence supporting that position, appear cruel and borne of prejudice. Way too many people on this forum have demonstrated the ability to tarnish others without the benefit of any facts to substantiate their assertions. I know Tony Dungy so this is a little personal for me.

His Mother I had as a teacher in Jackson, Michigan where we both grew up. He was just finishing College at Minnesota then. She was one of the nicest people, and most respected in the school. The people that took her classes and this is just high school, stood out from the rest. Still remember her fondly.

She passed away during the turmoil leaving Tampa. He never said a word in the press. I respect him greatly. The only time I ever saw my father cry was two years ago this week when my sister passed away at 47 from the flew. His only comment was that your not suppose to bury your children.

I thought from the beginning that it was too early to speculate on what killed the young man. The time of his discovery the location - all lend itself to a wide variety of possibilities including natural causes. The early reports had an LEO saying 'it appeared to be suicide'. It's entirely possible he was misquoted, he mispoke or who knows what.

Without necessarily implying a causal connection with this tragedy, it is well-known that the life of a college or professional football coach places an enormous strain both on the health of the coaches and on their family lives. A couple of years ago, I was at a Seahawks game and was looking at the program, reading the bios of the various coaches - three years here, five years there, seven years there, two years there - it is a nomadic, high-stress life, and a lot of coaches begin to have serious health issues in their late 40s, early 50s, not to mention marital and family problems.

Living here in Indy this has reverberated through our office. It's amazing how much people here love Mr. Dungy - the sorrow here is genuine if not palpable. A testament to Coach Dungy's character.

I was in the car (Tampa Bay) when the news came over the radio - I pulled over and called home. Dungy has that effect. Those of us who have never met him still feel he's "family". My prayers go out to him and his loved ones....
