I'm curious as to why liberals operate under the assumption that their voting base is full of idiots?

They vote liberal. Isn't it self evident that they are idiots? The liberal establishment is just (finally) recognizing truth

eventually Congress and the states passed the legislation that guaranteed the demanded rights.

On many issues, that's true, but schools were desegregated only through the Supreme Court.

Abortion too was legalized via the courts. There are probably lots more examples.

The point I was making was, if we allow more and more critical decisions to be made by courts, rather than legislature, we will be in serious trouble.

The constitution will be next-to-worthless except as a well from which to dredge more "rights" to be granted by a very few people, who will allow no recourse or alternative to their decisions.

I think *someone* in MA might want to consider publishing a list of people, with their names and resident street addresses, who are responsible for Knowthyneighbor.whatever.

Because, these people need an enlightenment: their very negative opinion as to the majority of voters in MA is abysmal, given their allegation that the people who signed the petition thought they were signing to ensure that stores sell alcohol...

Meaning, the Knowthyneighbor.whatever folks and their numbers in the state legislature sure do conclude that the majority of MA voters, what with their opinions, are "only" interested in obtaining drink.

Truly, it reflects to my view that Knowthyneighbor.whatever membership is intent on insulting MA voters into "submission" to "sign or else."

Not like everyone hasn't already noticed...just getting in my two cents.

You could have signed the petition by downloading it in pdf. Had I known so many here wanted to, I would have posted the link.

Sorry, now, that I didn't.

They know the majority wants this to be voted on. They also know, full well, the majority would vote to ban same sex marriage. That's why they protest so much, (heck, lie is more like it) and will do anything to try and keep it from coming to a vote.

These "people" and I use the word loosely, have bought into the whole "speak a lie enough times and loud enough, it becomes the truth", and "Desensitize them long enough, and they will come around to our point of view" BS. But they really believe it will work. Most MA residents do not agree.

That is where you can download and send the petition in if you are of a mind to, even though it won't count. No one came around in my town either, but I know someone who ran for state office and is still in a local office. He forwarded me the link.

"Like the current issue with homosexual marriage up in Mass four people decided it was a "right", and apparently that's that."

Correct, unfortunately. Which is why, with all the underhanded tactics that went into the decision of these 4 judges prior to the decision, there is a resolution to remove those judges. IF they can ever pressure the Legislature enough, they actually vote on it.

Interesting what the other 3 judges had to say:

These three liberal judges also wrote:

“Today, the court has transformed its role as protector of individual rights into the role of creator of rights, and I respectfully dissent.” Justice Francis X. Spina
“[T]he case stands as an aberration. To reach the result it does, the court has tortured the rational basis test beyond recognition.” Justice Martha B. Sosman
“Whether the court is correct in its assumption is irrelevant. What is relevant is that such predicting is not the business of the courts.” Justice Robert J. Cordy.

This is not all they wrote. Judge Cordy was so upset that he wrote more than Margaret Marshall did, Exactly 9210 words to Marshall's 9021.

Cordy summed it up in this truism.

"The court recognizes this concern, [marriage between homosexuals could signal an abandonment of the belief that marriage for heterosexuals is the proper environment for having and rearing of children] but brushes it aside with the assumption that permitting same-sex couples to marry 'will not diminish the validity or dignity of opposite-sex marriage,' [citation] and that 'we have no doubt that marriage will continue to be a vibrant and revered institution.' [citation]

"Whether the court is correct in its assumption is irrelevant. What is relevant is that such predicting is not the business of the courts. A rational Legislature, given the evidence, could conceivably come to a different conclusion, or could at least harbor rational concerns about possible unintended consequences of a dramatic redefinition of marriage."

The MA Legislature has defied the constitution so many times, it may as well not exist at all.

Will people be able to sign future petitions in this manner?

No, no. It's my own darn fault for being ill informed. At least there were more than enough signatures.
