I had earlier (last week I think) heard Warner take that position but I don't think he voted that way today (did he?).

I believe Warner came out yesterday speaking out against Stevens putting ANWR in the bill the way he did and sided with Reid

Warner threatened to wihhold the signature sheet from the conference committee, if certain unspecified additions were made. That was on Friday, the 16th.

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1542505/posts?page=117#117

Later posts in that thread contain substantiated speculaion regarding the sunbstance of the objectionable addition. Some of the subjects were ANWR, modification of Campaign Finance Law, and an Iraq pullout resolution.

There were a number of Senators who expressed outrage before the conference report came out (ala Warner), but those objections shut of "just like that," obviously, as the conference report was discharged to the Senate for action.

PRESIDENT Bush is wrong in wanting the Patriot Act?

Would you prefer that he acted like a benevolent despot/dictator and did whatever he damned pleased?

Explain, so that all of us will know if you do or do not understand, who Gorelick is and was, what she implemented, and how it works without the PA.

Is there any chance we can get rid of some RINOs within 6 months....

I'm sure there is. Just as I'm sure most would be replaced with Democrats. An unpleasant but unavoidable reality.

Here's the text (in PDF format) of the law as passed in 2001. I'm not sure what sections are due to sunset, but I don't believe any changes have been made to them other than the date of expiration.

FWIW, there have been intervening amendments to some provisions.
This is a decent summary ...

Nope. But NO president has the RIGHT to act like he can decide when and where to brush aside the U.S. Constitution...that has stood for over 200 years...in order to protect MY freedom.

He has no right.

Hey continue to sip the kool-aid! ;)

You are on the track

Not the right one...but THE track!

Talk to our founders and modern courts about contradictions and conflicts between Constitutional Rights and Constitutional Obligations. While no one likes any imposition on our rights it's something that happens from time to time because even a Constitutional Democracy isn't perfect especially in times when outside interest affects overall American needs and security.

The original Authority
The Records of the Federal Convention of 1787;

"the President is empowered to repel sudden attacks without awaiting congressional action and to make clear that the conduct of war is vested exclusively in the President."

LOL.... No law-abiding U.S. Citizens have been effected at all. Nothing.
Nad-DA.

There MAY have been some "wrongful arrests"....somewhere, somehow.
Boo-friggin-hoo. I've been pulled over before - mistakenly. It happens. Anyone without drama...........anyone with a sound foundation will be fine.

Bad guys don't like the Patriot Act.

Which one of YOUR rights has he brushed aside. They are wire tapping people taking calls from the enemy not Joe Blow talking to his girlfriend on the phone.
