USC quarterback Matt Leinart had his eligibility temporarily revoked after appearing in a promotional segment on ESPN earlier this month, a violation of an NCAA rule.
The 2004 Heisman Trophy winner was reinstated Tuesday after Southern California petitioned the NCAA.
The school declared him ineligible after the segment aired on the cable network. It was recorded after the Trojans' victory over UCLA in the final game of the regular season.
"Whenever we are aware that media outlets ask student-athletes to do these kinds of tags we immediately cut them off," said Tim Tessalone, USC's sports information director. "Unfortunately, this one slipped by."
NCAA spokesman Kent Barrett said Leinart's actions were "unintentional and inadvertent."
Leinart had been barred by USC from participating in media activities until after Christmas, Tessalone said. Leinart, who returned for his senior year to try to lead his school to a third straight national championship, was named sportsman of the year by the Sporting News on Tuesday.
Top-ranked USC will face No. 2 Texas in the Rose Bowl for the national championship.

Was ESPN setting him up? :)
ping
Why is the rose bowl game not on the first like always Karl?
Because (a) the first is a Sunday (all the other Jan. 1 bowl games are on Jan 2.) and (b) the Rose Bowl is hosting the "national championship" (and thus the last college game of the season).
The first UT fan to speak up regarding this should take a look at this first.
Bump
The Rose Bowl Parade and Game have never been played on a Sunday....part of the agreement made with the Pasadena churches way back when. Normally, it would be played on Monday the 2nd....but the BCS has moved the game to the 4th.
But the parade is still on the 2nd.
I dont know about there....there was a presentation about the NFL Draft at USC this week, for players who might want to jump into it...

Thank you I think i get it Merry Christmas go USC
ESPN loves the Trojans and would never think about setting him up. That being said, it would have been silly to have his eligibility revoked.
Hook 'em Horns.
The Mouse loves close games and upsets even more. USC as national champ has just about played itself out.
Not that I would accuse ESPN/ABC of fixing these games...(then again, they wrested the fully-fixed NBA from NBC).
You being right wouldn't upset me.
Meanwhile, Reggie Bush is gleefully getting away with pimping for agents with his "consultant" from Reebok.
The is a greedy organization which seeks to exploit the skills of these young students for their own personal gain. Also rather than ensuring these athletes actually study revelant careers in something other than sports, they force the issue on "intolerant Indian names." These politically correct pricks just piss me off.
It wasn't a scandal before I learned it was a scandal.
"The first UT fan to speak up regarding this should take a look at this first.'
I'm glad you brought that up because EPSN hyped that up and it turned out to be nothing, zip, nada!!!!
Now notice Lehnart was declared ineligible early this month and this is the first day we've heard of it. Had it been Vincent Young under the same circumstances, it would have been the headline on ESPN every hour upon the hour and covered like a major scandel.
ESPN is in bed with USC and they shall both die in the same bed.
Hook'em and Hook'em hard!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
