New Belarus bill restricts online dating

Associated Press

MINSK, Belarus - Belarusian lawmakers have passed legislation that would crack down on Internet dating and online spouse searches in the latest of a series of stringent government controls backed by authoritarian President Alexander Lukashenko.

Authorities said the measure, which was passed 101-1 by the lower house of parliament Wednesday, was intended to help halt human trafficking in the former Soviet republic. The bill still must be approved by the upper house and signed by Lukashenko before becoming law. The legislation would place new restrictions on organizations that promote dating or help match potential suitors with spouses, particularly via the Internet.

The bill also would require Belarusian students to receive written permission from the Ministry of Education to study abroad if the length of stay is longer than 30 days. Foreign companies seeking to hire Belarusian students for summer jobs also would need ministry approval.

"The measures are directed at improving the mechanisms guaranteeing effective counteraction to human trafficking - one of the most dangerous phenomena modern society faces in its development," First Deputy Interior Minister Alexander Shurko said.

Lukashenko has turned his nation of 10 million people an international pariah by stifling dissent, persecuting independent media and opposition parties, and prolonging his power through elections that international organizations say were marred by fraud. The United States has labeled Belarus an "outpost of tyranny" in league with countries such as Myanmar and Cuba.

Earlier this month, the lower house passed legislation that would make it a crime to discredit the state, be a member of the political opposition or an advocate for human rights in Belarus.

Lukashenko was first elected in 1994 after campaigning against corruption. Last year, a referendum passed giving him the right to run for president an indefinite number of times.

A U.S.-educated physicist has been tapped by the opposition to challenge Lukashenko in next year's vote. Many opposition leaders have been jailed or disappeared.

Oh, there's plenty of those. You just have to send them $5,000 so they can get the $50 million USD out of the Swiss bank account that their father left them......

What about mail order brides from Africa?

They keep getting stuck in customs, and no grooms are willing to send over the $10,000 (refundable, of course) customs expedite fee to see their prospective brides' paperwork processed.

The United States has labeled Belarus an "outpost of tyranny" in league with countries such as Myanmar and Cuba.

Belorussian refugees should be afforded the same deal provided to Cubans. If they can get here, by any means, they can stay.

I'm very thankful that my ancestor's saw fit to get out of that country !

"What about mail order brides from Africa?"

There is actually a reason for this.
Sure, there are some, but not many.
And there is some trafficking in human slaves out of Africa into the Middle East in particular, but not many.
Such slavery and purchased brides as there are, are mostly in Africa.

And the number one reason for this is that African women are ballbusters. These poor girls from Russia and the East can be cowed and beaten into submission. But Africans? Not very easy to beat into submission. more likely as not to beat YOU into submission, or to turn on you and kill you in your sleep.

There is a ferocity in the African spirit that does not lend itself well to ECONOMIC domination. Africans are poor, but extremely proud. Extremely.

Anecdote: I have a relative. Caribbean African. Her new husband beat her up one night. That night as he slept she hit him directly in the forehead with a hammer, hard, but not hard enough to kill him. He woke up screaming and cowering. She told him, very matter of factly, that if he ever hit her again, the next time she would kill him.
There is not the slightest bit of doubt that she would do it too. None.
He never hit her again.

That's what you are dealing with in Africans.
You can't order a submissive mail order bride from Africa, because nobody in black Africa is submissive, and however poor and hungry, ferociously proud.

It's a funny place, Africa. Very difficult to govern, because the people individually actually LIVE the "Live Free or Die" motto. Sure, government's oppressive. But everyone ignores it, because nobody obeys any laws but his own.

You can't turn people like that into mail order brides.
Most men who order women by mail want submissive slaves.
The only way to make a black slave is with a gun and and army.

"Authorities said the measure, which was passed 101-1 by the lower house of parliament Wednesday"

I bet the one "no" vote was a woman looking to become a mail-order bride.

Thank God I still live in a country where I can freely exchange IM sweet nothings with a hideous, unemployed, one-eared Georgian ex-con named Earl who masquerades as Dirk the studly tax attorney from Naples, Florida.

This is so ridiculous. There is absolutely nothing in the many online meet-a-bride services that is part of a human trafficking scam.

Actually it's more of a please-marry-me-then-I-can-ditch-your-a$$-and-stay-in-America scam.

More's the pity, because I had my eye on an 18-year-old heiress PhD in quantum physics built like a brick dacha who wants to marry a man, any man up to 60.
