"People on popular prescription drugs for treating acid reflux — Prilosec, Prevacid and Nexium — seem more prone to getting a potentially dangerous diarrhea caused by the bacterium Clostridium difficile, new research shows. C-diff, as it's known, can cause severe diarrhea and crampy intestinal inflammation called colitis."

Idiots don't understand that taking a few more craps each day is much better then puking at 2 am because you ate some Tai Peanut sauce or pizza ?

I had some very painful stomach problems for a few years. I would get pains so bad I could hardly breath, literally. Then I discovered Mylanta..... I will never forget that day.

I was having one of my serious stomach pains and then a relative gave me some of that wonderful medicine. It was a matter of minutes and my pain was gone. I was stunned ! I even laughed out loud because I was so impressed.

I would then take it when ever those pains would start kicking in and after a few months the pains simply went away. I haven`t had to take any Mylanta for about a year now.

Even my acid reflux has seriously subsided. I think there were only two nights the past year where I woke up with my throat on fire.

Mylanta is a wonder drug !

This is exactly what Thomas Sowell talks about - trade offs! You cannot have something without something else happening. You cannot have a perfect accident free world. Yet, some liberal do-gooder will read this and want to ban all anti acid drugs.

My sure cure for heartburn:

1) Cut back about 60% on food intake for at least three days (maybe forever.)
2) drink at least 4 large glasses of water each day (force it.)
3) no salt.
4) no sugar or sweets.
5. coffee-only half and half, 12 oz max per day and only in the morning.
6) no alcohol.
7) one brisk walk each morning (maybe forever.)

P.S.
I am not a physician.

Papaya enzyme works like a charm and does not give these side effects. Sometimes apple cider vinegar will do the same thing.

Stomach problems? Take DGL.....Deglycyrrhized Licorice Tabs....from Enzymatic Therapy Natural Medicines....you can get them at most Health Food stores, and in Health Food Depts of major grocery stores.....AND, because it's DE-glycyrrhized licorice, it doesn't affect blood pressure.

duh...
We have acid in the stomach for two reasons: ONe to digest food, Two, to kill germs.

C Dif is a "normal" germ that usually is kept in place by "good" germs...and if you take Antibiotics, and kill the "good" germs, it multiplies and voila, C.Dif diarrhea, a nasty nasty disease...

However, dying from bleeding ulcers is nasty, dying from aspiration pneumonia from Reflux is nasty, and sitting up all night unable to sleep from heartburn is nasty...

Most old peole taking these strong medicines already have other diseases that make C.Dif more likely (heart disease, diabetes for example) or are elderly...

And the epidemics in England were spread thru hospitals due to their lack of clean up crews...
