A matter of trust, a duty to verify
The Washington Times ^ | 20 December 2005 | Wesley Pruden

Posted on 12/20/2005 7:22:22 PM PST by concretebob

President Bush is finally applying some of the lessons of public relations grudgingly taught and probably reluctantly learned at the Harvard Business School. Politics is difficult to reduce to a spreadsheet, though our masters of business administration can't resist trying. But over the past several days George W. has offered details of the how and when of what America can accomplish in Iraq, and yesterday he even called an unexpected press conference to explain why it's a good idea for government agents to eavesdrop on certain telephone conversations without a warrant.

"It will not get you better intelligence and it will not make us safer as a nation," said Sen. Patrick Leahy of Vermont

Leaky Leahy now there's a voice of reason we should all listen to /sarc

Another stupid rant from another out of touch Dinosaur. Maybe if the "Conservative pundits" like WP spent a LITTLE time defending the truth instead of ALL their time lecturing Bush the message Bush has been putting on Iraq for months would gain ground instead of being one hit wonders which the usual suspects quickly forgot in their haste to rush back to the "Why doesn't Bush fight back" whines.

Maybe Bush's message would gain some ground if his Echo Chamber spent even 1/10th as much time exposing the Democrat Talking points as the lies they are as they do whining at Bush.

The Conservative Movement has become so PR Stupid I doubt it can actually win anymore. They waste all their time shooting at their own side and then whine because their agenda goes no where. The Conservative Punditry these days is stuck on stupid.

As for stupid, well, opinions vary.

But politics is what the business of government is all about. That's what presidents and senators come to Washington to do, to explain, to argue and maneuver for judicious compromise. The president has been doing that skillfully for the past week

I enjoy reading Wes Pruden. He can credibly be called one of the "good guys".

He can also be quite snarky, and I think he was in this piece. He's entitled to his opinion, but he's not entitled to his own personal W.No one is.

I would like to see him do a solid investigative series on the NYT and James Risen, as well as leaks in general. He's got the newspaper and the talent to blow this thing wide open.

Not likely. Mention anything critical of Bush and MNJ busts out the conspiracy theories.

This White House has done a piss poor job of PR. They have allowed the democrats to run roughshod over them, spin the war, the economy, the W.O.T. and engage in hypocrisy. It's only in the last few weeks that things have turned around. It's about time that W has showed some leadership and rallied the base.

Let's put the blame where it lies....The Dems are able to play their little games because they own the "media" and leak like a sieve.

I disagree. Holding press conferences and smacking the reporters with their liberal questions, giving speeches, addressing the nation at prime time was what needed to happen. He needed to be out in front of his own party and showing that he wasn't going to but up with the BS. If he had been doing this 6 months ago things would have looked different. I think the 2006 elections are going to look a lot better for the republicans and while I have many issues with them, having the guts to kill our enemies isn't one of them.

I guess we all enjoyed his sharp tongue when the Clintons were in power. I am disappointed in reading the same kind of superior attitude from Pruden when he writes about Bush. It just sounds like carping for the sake of carping, so I hardly ever look for his columns any more.

I don't disagree with the bad PR, but I also know GWB is trying to take the high road and not play the slimey games the dumbocrats play.
He is a better man than any 20 of the denizens of dumboland can ever hope to be.
That having been said, I wish he would take the gloves off more often, and be the SOB I know he can be.
But if he did, the dumbocrats would just whine and mewl like always.
We can't be like the dumbos, but we can't play nice anymore either.
