"You forgot about Poland!" Europe is seen as being the fast growing market for LCD TVs through at least the end of the decade. To help satisfy the thirst for LCD panels, 3M is building a new manufacturing facility in Poland to produce LCD optical film:
'We are building the plant in Wroclaw to be near our customers, such as L.G. Philips LCD, to better serve them and to better serve the largest LCD-TV market in the world,' said Andy Wong, division vice president, 3M Optical Systems Division. This investment is part of our ongoing commitment to meet the needs of the industry and our customers as we expand existing facilities and build new ones, Wong added.
Too bad about St. Paul...
If Poland stays on the right track, and I think it will, it will do what Ireland has done and overtake the moribund, regulation-stifled economies of western Europe.
Manned with forced labor from our secret prisons?
This year the LCD-TV market in the US will be 4 million or over 25% of the world demand. I kind of doubt that Europe has a bigger share, although it is possible.
Sorry boss, I can't tell you. CIA told me that it was a secret.
This is similar to getting a toe hold for democracy in Iraq while the rest of the middle east fiddles.
