A glass-sided bus filled with sand, palm trees and bikini-clad beachgoers is roaming the wintry streets of nearly 20 US cities, from New York to Chicago, writes Amy Yee in New York.
This is not a hallucination induced by frigid temperatures. It is part of Mexico's marketing campaign to say it is open for visitors after Hurricane Wilma devastated some of the country's important tourist spots.
Nearly 90 per cent of international tourists to Mexico last year came from the US and the Mexico Tourism Board has spent $10m (8.3m, £5.7m) on a campaign primarily aimed at North American visitors. Luring them back to Quintana Roo - the Mexican state that includes the popular resorts of Cancún, Cozumel, Mayan Riviera and Isla de Mujeres - is crucial ahead of the region's tourism high season from January to April.
"The images on TV [after Wilma] were - wow - terrible. People still have that image," said Gabriela Rodríguez, tourism secretary for Quintana Roo. "We need to let people know we're back in business."
Quintana Roo accounts for a third of Mexico's $11bn annual tourism receipts. About 38 per cent of visitors to Mexico visit the state's resorts.
Did you forget something?
Hey Beaversmom, don't be a creep, you know what's missing here...
I'm illiterate. Need pics.
Pictures please ---And NOT of the grasscutters in my neighborhood .
Yes, are we not missing something here.
A-hem! (Whistles to self, pauses.) Well, we're waiting....
none of the mexicans who work at the car wash near my house and did such a fine job cleaning my 3 cars yesterday morning in sub freezing weather wore bikini's.
I assume they have all their paper work up to date or they wouldnt have been able to work in such a public area.(sarc)
Between US tourism in Mexico and all the money sent back there by illegal aliens, Mexico simply would not have an economy without the USA. You'd think that would be enough, but we send millions there as foreign aid as well.
At least when Americans go to Mexico, they return to the US.
I saw this a few weeks ago in Baltimore while driving on Pratt St. It was glass box a little smaller than a 18 wheel trailer with two girls in side dancing with a guy holding s surfboard.
I did a double take to make sure I saw what I saw
Boy, it's *nippy* out there.
Okay, it's been seven minutes. I believe you'll be sympathetic to me hitting the abuse button and requesting you be banned.
If this thread is still here when I get back, I'll post some intriguing photos for the rest of yous.
