Fox rips 'shameful' U.S. plan to build border fence

MEXICO CITY -- Mexican President Vicente Fox stepped up his attacks on the U.S. plan to build a fence along its southern border on Sunday, saying it was a ''shameful'' initiative for a democracy.

Fox said barriers between nations belonged to the last century and had been torn down by popular uprisings, referring to the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989.

''This wall is shameful,'' Fox said at an event for migrants in his home state of Guanajuato.

On Friday, the U.S. House of Representatives voted 239-182 in favor of an immigration enforcement bill that includes a proposal to build 700 miles of fence through parts of California, Arizona, New Mexico and Texas.

Under the bill, soldiers and police would help stop people sneaking across, and employers would have to check the legal status of their workers.

Fox said the measures were hypocritical for a country made up of immigrants.

''When we look at their roots, the immense majority are migrants, migrants that have arrived from all over the world,'' he said.

Invasion is a hostile act.

Mr. Fox should be thankful that American political leaders are only pondering passive measures to counter his hostility.

Coming from a country that has no shame, that means a lot.

Pay no attention to his hysterical braying. The wall will be built, the checks will be instituted. Simple as that.

Anything that slows the second largest flow of money into his country is viewed as an attack by him.

He certainly has the Mexican military on his southern border.

Hypocrite.

Fox is ashamed because no longer can white Mexicans, like himself, foist off their native population on the US.

I think we should add barbed wire on top of this wall and a moat.

The reason a barrier is "shameful" in Fox's opinion is it WILL expose the failed policies of his governing ability. If Mexico ceases to have continued access to America's wealth, I'd say within a year - tops - would signal the end of Fox's cartel.

I wish I had your confidence. I don't expect the legislation that comes out of the House/Senate Reconciliation Conference to look anything like what the House just passed. I think the bought and paid for Chamber of Commerce tools in the Senate will pay a little lip-service to enforcement but mainly we will get a massive guest worker shamnesty.

The Berlin Wall was meant to keep people in, not out. This nation was (and continues to be) made up of legal immigrants, not criminal trespassers.

build guard towers with phalanx vulcan systems every half mile or so along the border......use drone aircraft with heat seeking capabilities for targeting.....declare a dead zone of about a mile along the whole border and sterilize it daily.

now, I ask you is that going too far?

Without the US as a relief valve to Mexican social problems, the ruling elite face a possible full Mussolini.

<< Fox said barriers between nations belonged to the last century and had been torn down by popular uprisings, referring to the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989 >>

The Berlin wall was erected to keep people in, since people were fleeing communistic rule daily, and Berlin was the best route to the free world. Fox's comparison would only have a point if Mexico were building a wall! What a loser.
