Garcia may be on to something, though I have never heard of folks fleeing from a neighborhood that was sinking into a dung heap before.
Must be racisim and must be dealt with like a hate crime. Throw the book at them.
"Janey Has Two Mommies" would be a good one to toss.
Its interesting how liberals react, especially when talking (and the proverbial "talk's cheap") must be replaced by acting. I remember reading a few years ago how the citizens of a section of Eugene, Oregon (probably about as left-Coast as Berkeley) were up in arms over the city of Eugene's plans to rename the street they lived on as a tribute to Dr. King. Some of the residents apparently claimed, with no evidence, that to call their street "MLK Avenue" would reduce the value of their homes.
Columbine is the State Flower of Colorado. I imagine there are a few schools with that name.
No.
I seem to recall a number of schools referred to as "Columbine" in and around the Boulder area... must be a popular name.
Folks are just going to start fleeing the public school system altogether. Can't happen too soon, IMHO. Public shooling is a failed experiment, and they aren't going to get any better. Parents with the resources should get their kids out now.
Wrong amigo.....Could it be that people are sick of Libville?....Lets ask Ward Churchill what he thinks...on second thought, F*&^ Ward Churchill.
Well, we can't have people going to school where they want to go to school, can we?
"I think people are leaving Columbine because they don't like to be with brown kids.
I can't speak for anyone else, but I send my kids to Parochial school because I don't want them in class with non-english speaking kids from illiterate families, hacking whooping cough germs on them and displaying open contempt for law and our country. Maybe that's got a little more to do with it than not wanting to be with "brown" kids.
Owl_Eagle(If what I just wrote makes you sad or angry,
Denver and I believe Boulder, are "sanctuary cities" for illegals - the local police force will not assist the INS in any fashion. Now they are reaping what they have sown.
The other aspect of this is that there is a lot of violence, gang activity, drug activity, sexual activity and other aspects of the immigrant culture that are distasteful to regular Americans. Not that these things don't exist in pure white schools. But with a disproportionate number of Mexicans (to say Hispanic is nonsense), you have no hope for a remotely decent school experience for your kids.
The Mexican Illegal Alien community does not want to integrate into American Culture. They generally don't see the benefit of having their kids integrate either, hence the bi lingual nonsense.
In the hope for a future vote, the politicians coddle this behavior.
I am in Colorado, my daughter attends a mostly Mexican school and I speak from first hand experience as a parent.
Over half of the cheerleaders at my daughters school will not graduate this year because they are pregnant. All Mexican.
Thanks King Jorge.
On a brighter note the bill passed in the house last Friday is not bad. Now the challenge is to get the Senate to go along.
It is funny to watch Boulder reap what they sow.
It has nothing do to with skin color. It has to do with (1) the fact that when a large number of non-English speakers enter a school, the focus is on those kids, and the kids who are fluent and capable sit twiddling their thumbs while the achievement levels for the whole group go down, and (2) "Poor people have poor ways." There is a correlation between a family's attitude toward education and achievement, their financial status, and their kids' educational achievement. What parent would choose to send their child into an environment where doing well is school is a sign of selling out to the "man"?
Uh, first off they are not YOURS to 'disperse'.
Secondly, you fill the schools with underachieving kids who have no respect for laws or 'normal' sociatorial behaviors and can't even be bothered to learn the language of the country they've come to uninvited because they have a *right* to be here.... a *right* to be educated.....a *right* to well balanced and nutritious meals.....a *right* to do and act pretty much as they damn well please.....
Then slander the parents of American kids with the unearned RACIST label for exercising THEIR *right* to have their kids actually EDUCATED instead of just warehoused until they reach their majority?
Liberalism makes my brain hurt!
I find this hilarious because we are talking about "Uber-liberal" Boulder. Are the new ager's crystals and buddah's being replaced by backyard grottos featuring the Virgin Mary?

The issues not addressed by this article are:
1). Do some ethnic classes value education more than others?
2). Are peers and parental involvement the biggers factor in educating your child?
3). Do parents want their children to attend schools with peers and parents who share their values?
If we are limiting this discussion to ethnicity, the many studies have found that the Hispanic community does not value education as highly as other communities (generally speaking). If recollection serves me correctly, I believe the order is as follows: (1) Asian; (2) White; (3) Black; (4) Hispanic.
Other issues not addressed: There were no Clinton or Kennedy children attending the school either.
And just where in the nation do parents NOT have this latitude? DUH.
Liberals want equality of outcome, not opportunity.
If one fails, then all should fail, because it's not fair to the one.
Any sane parent knows that sending their child into a school full of ghetto children is a bad idea, but of course, it's "racist" according to the Left.
Multiculturalism doesn't work. It never has, and never will.
