Good point.....I wonder if these names are the Islamic names of ancient rulers. The muslims renamed Alexander as Sikander in their literature and historical accounts of the Macedonian. Am quite sure that there is quite a bit of Islamic historical revsionism here.

FWIW - an excellent book for the changes in a society's culture and history after Islam's invasion is Among the Believers: An Islamic Jourey by Sir VS Naipaul. Naipaul travels through Iran, Malaysia, Pakistan, and Indonesia and discusses how the advent of Islam in these societies led to considerable historical revisionism in those ancient societies.

Alexander's name was sometimes transliterated "Iskanderun", which is how the "Gulf of Iskanderun" got its name. But anyway, something else related to what you wrote:
Zul-Qarnain - What is the argument?
by Jochen Katz
I have never claimed that Zul-Qarnain *is* the historical Alexander the Great. I don't know why your move to agree with me in this is considered a rebuttal... The argument is then that the Qur'anic story is clearly taken from the legends about Alexander. There are many many details of the Qur'an account which are nearly verbatim to be found in the Alexander legends. Conclusion: Zul-Qarnain clearly is the Alexander the Great of the legend stories. And because the Qur'an presents the material from the legends as if this were history, it shows that Muhammad could not distinguish between legends and history when he incorporated this material in the Qur'an. This is evidence that the Qur'an is not of divine origin.

Even Hebrew is not that old. Jesus did not speak Hebrew, he spoke Arameic.

Jesus spoke Hebrew because he read in the Temple. That's in Scripture. Everyday language was Aramaic. He MAY have spoken Greek as he was a carpenter and Greek was the "business" language of the day.

I provided glass and other materials for a new school in Al Jouf which is still a thriving Saudi community.
