Australia's Dangerous Fantasy

LAST Sunday on Cronulla Beach, a suburb of Sydney, thousands of drunken white youths attacked anyone they believed was of Arab descent. Inspired by reports that Lebanese-Australians had assaulted two white lifeguards, text messages calling for a Lebanese "bashing day" appeared on thousands of cellphones. Some of Sunday's assailants wore T-shirts that proclaimed, "We grew here; you flew here," or, "Ethnic cleansing unit." For many, the Cronulla Beach incident did not come as a surprise. Rather, it was the bubbling up of an undercurrent that is increasingly evident in Australian life.

It seems to me that the melting pot needs some rejection of foreigness to encourage assimilation. It has alwaqys been so, and it has a track record. What probably is a failure is multiculturalism and calling all rejectionism racism.

We've turned over these cultural conservation duties to our Gramscian educators, journalists, and motion-picture producers. There seems to be an attempt underway to wrest it back, but the hold is strong.

From the article:

"A volatile part of our community (muslims) is deeply alienated, unable to belong, and another volatile (white vigilantes) part has retreated to an irretrievable past and a mythical notion of racial purity."

What a bunch of crap. There are a lot of non white aussies who get along swimmingly with the whites.

Why the hell are the muslims "volitile". Maybe they are alienated and unable to belong because they don't want to belong.

Further, the white vigilantes are not retreating to the past of racial purity as they have mostly embraced the non muslim immigrants.

This is just another load of dung from the paper of dung, The New York Times.

The New York Times has a 'Dangerous Fantasy'.

That was one point I got out of of Pikamax's post: liberal, leftist views of the assimilation problems in Australia (views both from inside and outside Australia) require gross distortions of the facts.

The NYT is obviously on the side of non-assimilation. No population that is not pressed will assimilate, and without assimilation there will always be friction.

The left assumes you can teach "diversity" and everybody will be happy with one another. That's horse cr@p. Even leftists aren't happy with conservatives, and never will be. People are hard-wired to dislike "others", and it's a fantasy that you can teach them otherwise.

These Arabs need to speak english, even in their homes, so their children will learn, and drop the degrading hajab dress.

I also note that the article doesn't mention the Ausies killed in Bali, and threats from muslims throughout the South Asia area.

This article is like a parody of liberalism -- I wonder how the author can be so clueless.

I think it's hilarious when immigrants, in this country and others, don't want to see other immigrants, illegal or otherwise, be allowed in. Maybe they're just following our lead?

In other words, the set of all types of immigrants are equal, and none have or will be any better than any others. None are any worse for the country than any others. You and the author of this article apparently agree: selective attitudes about immigration are bad. You're still drinking the multiculturalist Koolaid.

That trend goes beyond immigrants. In our area here, in recent years, people have moved out here because of the small-town atmosphere. But when OTHER people move out here for the same reason, then the previous "new" ones complain about it. Curiously, the more long-term residents are the ones who don't.
