Seven men have been arrested in Sydney armed with molotov cocktails as 2000 police patrol the city to prevent more race-fuelled violence.
Two of the men were arrested with the petrol bombs on a bus to Bondi, police said. The two were caught this morning after the bus driver smelled petrol as the bus travelled through East Sydney on its way to Bondi. He alerted police.
A short time ago at Brighton-le-Sands, in Sydney's south, police said five men were arrested, also in possession of molotov cocktails.
Police warnings, lockdowns and a massive presence at Sydney beaches appear to have averted futher riots today.
As about 1000 people rallied in the central business district to promote peace, as beachgoers heeded warnings to stay away from areas considered at risk of more unrest.
The scene was in stark contrast to last Sunday, when about 5000 people rioted at Cronulla beach in Sydney's south, bashing anyone of Middle Eastern appearance.
The attacks sparked a wave of reprisals, with mobs later going on the rampage through several suburbs, trashing shops and cars and attacking police and churches.
Today's sunny weather failed to attract anything like normal summer crowds to southern and eastern Sydney beaches, which were locked down amid police fears that last weekend's violence could be repeated.
Lifeguards at Cronulla, Maroubra, Coogee and Bondi all reported small numbers of beachgoers.

The Age is a liberal paper. The fact that no names are mentioned leads me to think that moose were involved.

While The Age is certainly left wing, it's unlikely that names have been released at this stage.

"Race" avoided is Muslim confirmed, from what I've read, with your media as well as from France, and increasingly, ours as well. Had the arrests been Anglo, there would be no guessing.

"The scene was in stark contrast to last Sunday, when about 5000 people rioted at Cronulla beach in Sydney's south, bashing anyone of Middle Eastern appearance." No bias here.

I don't know what is normal in the United States - but in Australia, it is highly unlikely that personal details such as the race or names of people arrested for summary offences would be released to the media until they are charged, and probably not until they appear before a Magistrate.
These men were arrested today on a Sunday - they will almost certainly not face caught until tomorrow. Nothing should be read into the fact that no personal details are published - because unless a journalist actually witnessed the arrest, they wouldn't have that information.
Australian media can be very politically correct, certainly. But in this case, there is no reason whatsoever to suppose that is happening. You would not expect a newspaper to have these details yet unless they were actually on the scene.

What's this "racist" bit? Arabs are considered caucasian, semitic, just like Jews are white. There is no race issue. There is a religious and cultural issue, but not race. I'm sick of that word being thrown around when it isn't a race issue. Bah humbug.

But...but...b-b-but...Muslims are only wanting you to live under Islamic law....It's racist to resist...

Here is an excellent bit of analysis off of another website's posting area:

My digs
Here is an article I recently read from:
http://www.faithfreedom.org/oped/JacobThomas51110.htm , these are not my views so I quote
"Is It Too Late to Learn?
By Jacob Thomas
The mayhem that is going on not only in Paris, but all over the country, needed only one incident, such as the death by electrocution of two young Muslims who were fleeing from the scene of an attempted crime. While many point to the French crisis as a result of a failure of integration, I would like to stress that ultimately Muslim immigrants do not and cannot integrate into French society, or anywhere else. These words may sound extremely pessimistic, but they have the weight of history and the sacred Islamic texts to support them.
By the end of WWI, Britain , France , the Netherlands , and Spain controlled most of the Muslim world. They administered lands stretching from the East Indies ( Indonesia ) in Asia to Morocco in North Africa . These areas, with the exception of India , were entirely Muslim. European administrators of these lands were assisted, quite often, by scholarly men versed in Islamic history, and quite aware of the unique nature of Islam.
Of all the Europeans, the French learned first-hand in Algeria that Muslims will never adapt to European civilization. Beginning in 1830, and especially after conquering all of Algeria in 1848, France tried hard to make the country truly French. In fact, the French annexed Algeria , and declared it to be part and parcel of France itself. But all that was to no avail. Soon after the end of WWII, the Algerian uprising began, and it took the lives of around one million Algerians before France conceded its failure in its civilizational enterprise and decided to pull out of the country. Around one million French and European settlers in Algeria had to leave and find a new home in France . That failure of France in Algeria should have served as an example of the impossibility of assimilating Muslim immigrants into French society. But that lesson was not learned. The same may be said about other European countries that invited Muslims from North Africa, the Middle East , and S.E. Asia. While other groups of African and Asian immigrants have done a good job of integrating into the host countries, to date Muslims in Europe live in their own areas. Even those living in France and even after they acquire French citizenship, keep their final allegiance to the Islamic Umma.
Several factors have been adduced for the failure of Muslims to succeed in becoming normal parts of the host countries, such as poverty, racism, lack of education; but none of these refer to the basic reason for that failure. The basic reason is the very nature of Islam. It is unlike all other major world religions; Ill never tire saying that Islam is much more than a religion. Islam is a unique complex of religion plus state plus culture in an indivisible entity.
Furthermore, I would like to draw attention to the classical Islamic worldview that divides the world into two major camps: Darul Islam (the Household of Islam), and Darul Harb (the Household of War.) From 632 to around 1950, Muslims lived almost exclusively within their own realms. They did not immigrate. Where they lived, they ruled. Their faith thrives only when enforced by the arm of the state. Lets never forget the historical fact that the founder of Islam began by proclaiming his faith in his home city of Mecca , and got nowhere. It was only after migrating to Medina and joining his preaching with political and military action that he finally gave birth to the Islamic Umma.
Now a brand new phenomenon arrived soon after the end of WWII, when large groups of Muslims began to arrive in Europe . Neither the British, nor the French, nor other Europeans host countries, thought through the implications of the presence of a growing Muslim population. They ignored a simple fact that Muslims dont feel at home within Darul-Harb. They do their utmost to create conclaves that resemble their original homeland within Darul Islam. As the number of legal and illegal immigrants increase, and as their birthrate outnumbers that of the Europeans, the problems of Muslims in Europe will grow exponently.
It may be too late for Europe to continue to be a continent of freedom and democracy. Some have predicted that by the end of this century, Europe would have been overrun by Islam. For the present, the solutions that are being considered by the French government as reported in Le Figaro are mostly of economic nature. It is certainly helpful for the young and disaffected Muslim youth to find jobs and earn a decent livelihood. But the heart of the problem is not economic, but cultural and religious. France has been secularized since the 1789 Revolution; but Islam does not accept secularization. Right now, Islam is undergoing whats known in Arabic as sahwa, a revival that affects Muslims all over the globe. No matter where they live, Muslims are not able or willing to set aside the political baggage that has been the very essence of their worldview. Even if their economic and social status in Western Europe improves, they will still dream of Islamizing the host country. To forget this fundamental nature of Islam is to court disaster
