To understand how truly awesome this type of joint service training is, one would have to have experienced the "bad old days".

When I went through the Armed Forcs Staff College in 1968, I recognized that it was training us to avoid the interservice rivalry problems I'd read about in so many WWII memoirs by general officers. I'm glad to see the trend has continued.

Looks like they resolved it.
In 1980 something, we hosted an operational U.S. Army Air Defense unit meeting at an operational USAF Air Defense Wing.
It was a "come to the real world of combat" thing for all the participants.
We were able to convince them that firing on our airborne fighters would quickly earn them a visit from our bombers.
And they were able to convince us that we needed better battlefield communications, or they would keep firing.
I can't explain to anyone who has never experienced or been involved with trying to minimize "friendly fire" incidents how great an achievement has been made by our current DOD.
They won't let me back in, and I can understand that to a degree, because these people are very, very good at what they do.
God bless them.
I certainly do.
