"My solution: Allow the legislatures and governors of each state opt in for Patriot Act coverage. States not opting in forfeit Federal aid should a terrorist act occur in their jurisdiction."

Something along those lines might work. It's interesting that since the Patriot Act has been in place, there hasn't been a major terrorist act in the US.

If the big insurance companies and airlines,(who actually have to pay once the damage has been done from terrorist acts) get involved to lobby passage, we'll see results. Also, Wall Street should care. The stock market doesn't react very well to terrorism. But then again, I'm sure the Patriot Act could catch some interesting schemes on Wall Street too, so maybe not, lol.

The logical fallacies here are at least correlation vs. causation (did PA cause this or is it coincidence), oversimplification (there can be many causes), suppressed evidence (no other possibilities given) and appeal to force ("It's keeping you safe, so accept it").

It's interesting that since Howard Dean became head of the DNC, there hasn't been a major terrorist act in the US.

Be advised that if you are arguing in favor of the Patriot Act, this is not a really good argument to use with us Freepers who are skeptical about it.
