Is The Library still open? That was always my favorite watering hole when I got up there. But I haven't been up there (Houghton, not the UP) for at least 20 years.
The Library is much different now than when you were there. It had burnt down probably 7-8 years ago and they re-opened it as a micro brewery/restaurant.
Interesting story about how the original library burned down. And oddly enough, winter 2002 the restaurant 'Steamers' (owned by the same people as the library), burnt down when they were losing $$.
Its on the corner of Isle Royale and Lake St. The restaurant overlooks Ripley and the Portage. I had an apartment on the N side of downtown, between Soumi and the Library. Fresh hot pasties, and a growler of Rabbit Bay Brown!! Made for a great evening.

Thanks for the info - and you have some great pictures (that I swiped) on your homepage.
Just curious - have you skied Mt. Bohemia? Is it worth making a trip up there if in the region if you're used to skiing Lake Tahoe and sometimes Colorado?
