Fr. Scanlon

Yes, I remember now how he scoped the place out, mingled with students and faculty to get a feel for the lifestyle and general attitude, then formulated a game plan and took it to the administration with a take-it-or-leave-it proposal for reform. They took it, and it probably saved the school from closure.

There's a place called Magdalen College that's also pretty conservative; they advertize in National Review.

"My niece, after spending 3 semesters at University of North Carolina - Greensboro shocked me at Thanksgiving with her calls for the DEATH of the President. Called himn a lair and a murderer."

Reminds me of a girl from my high school who I remembered as a very sweet, intelligent person. Then I saw her a few years later after she'd gone to the U-Dub, and she'd been transformed into an angry, cynical, sneering radical feminist. It was sad.

Thank you. Yes, she is home-schooled. And one of her reasons for going to PHC is their renowned Moot Court team. She won the moot court competition at the Virginia Beach Teenpact Judicial camp this past summer. She has three years of mock trial experience (we have a local home-schooling attorney who puts together a team, last year they beat the two large local high schools and went to state competition for the third consecutive year she has participated) and dreams of being a constitutional lawyer.

Thank you very much. I will try to keep the board up on her experiences (she's a Daddy's girl so I'll get a lot of info).

Of course the shooting range is indoors in the UP. It's a frozen land.

Ha! Hillsdale College. Wasn't the President of that school caught up in some sort of sordid sex scandal just a few years back? Yikes!

I think this link has turned into a link of our GREAT memories of the UP. I would love to meet all of you. I will be traveling through the UP this summer(I go through about once every couple of years). If any of you still live up there send me a private reply. I would like to meet you and buy you an adult beverage at the Library, or any other place of your choice in the UP. I usually spend most of my time in Marquette, but I also know people in Escanaba. Let me know.

Interesting that three of the most conservative (two top ten and one honorable mention) are located in the "Cradle of Civilization" near SW PA.

Thank you. Again, we're very proud of her. Actually, PHC is about 90% homeschoolers (there are about 275 students on campus). It was started by Michael Farris (founder of the Home School Legal Defense Association). She took a summer class at PHC when she was 15. It was Constitutional Law and was taught by Dr. Farris himself, who has argued before the Supreme Court and who was in the Oval Office when the Partial Birth Abortion ban was signed by Bush. He gave her an A+ on the final and asked her to consider coming to school there. It was one of her proudest achievements (along with her 1560 SAT and being named a National Merit Scholar - well, there I go bragging again . . . ). But the quality of kids going to PHC is extremely high, and they consider themselves the equal of any Ivy League school in terms of students and learning.

While I have sympathy, professors don't brainwash any minds except extremely weak minds. Your sister/brother are the ones who failed here.

Went to both a liberal & a relatively conservative college (it was actually about as liberal as the 1990s Democratic party, which is uber-conservative in academia)... it was a lot easier to be a conservative in the former than the latter, because the professors & students were such parodies of themselves.

FWIW, Mike Adams refers to UNC-G as University of North Carolina - Gomorrah.

Yup. Magdalene and Thomas More are very small, but they're very close to us, so I'm thinking of them for my daughters. Plus, they're both relatively inexpensive. $15k/year for tuition and room and board.
