VALPARAISO, Ind. -- A disagreement over potato chips led a female jail inmate to attack another inmate, Porter County officials said.
Police said Mary Louise Ochoa, 29, of Gary, attacked Kelly Katona in Katona's cell Monday afternoon. Ochoa faces a possible charge of aggravated battery, police said.
Katona, 38, of South Haven, cut her head when it hit a bunk bed during the struggle, police said. The injury required stitches, police said.
Investigators said the fight started after Katona agreed to trade her bag of popcorn for Ochoa's hot dog and chips.
However, Ochoa only gave Katona the hot dog, not the chips, according to the police report.
Ochoa attacked Katona after she complained, police said.
Ochoa has been in jail since April on a charge of auto theft, according to police records.
Katona was arrested in May on charges of assaulting a police officer and paramedic, resisting arrest and public intoxication.
Hot dogs, chips, popcorn? No party hats?
Apparently she knows how to keep it real.
Dawg what up tho?
Two female prisoners fighting over a hotdog...
I wonder how many posts will pass before some male freeper demands to see pictures
Five posts and no demand for pictures.
Great minds think alike.
Huuummmmmm.... Nope, better not say a word!
Lays - can't eat just one.
Just why in the heck should they have food in the cells? The broad hit her head on the bunk fighting over food. I'm surprised that she wasn't fighting for the remote. They should be happy with three hots and a cot.
Bwahahaaa!!! Dave is awesome!
I never thought this would happen to me, but...
I'll pre-empt it.
So what happened to the potato chips? Did they let the chips fall where they may?
My dogs fight over empty water bottles and paper towel tubes.
They are really stupid.
Must have been good potato chips.
I wonder if she's a chip off the old block?
When asked about the assault, Katona said:
"I didn't see it coming...it sure was a chip shot."
Thank you! I'll be here all week.
