CUERO — Registered sex offenders in Cuero would be forced to post a sign at their residences declaring their status if some members of the Cuero City Council get their way.

The City Council voted unanimously Wednesday to instruct a city attorney to draft an ordinance that would require the signs.

The signs would be 2-foot square and read "a registered sex offender lives here," the Victoria Advocate reported for Thursday editions.

It should say on each sign what their offense was.

This originated in Corpus Christi, in Texas anyway. It should apply everywhere.

See this as an ugly 'slippery slope'; while offering a 'false sense of security' as it does not protect you from 'first offenders'. The truth of the matter is. . .you might want just to imagine that ANY of your neighbors has the possibility or being a 'sex offender'. . .by his/her past or by his/her future.. and live carefully, mindfully and accordingly.

This is a horrible idea. It will only cause violence and ruin the lives of more people (I'm talking about whoever decides to be a vigilante).

If sex offenders are that dangerous to the point this is being considered, then DONT LET THEM OUT OF PRISON!

We dont keep punishing people after thay have served their time as required by our current laws.

Why single out sex offenders? Piss in public or be an 18 year old having sex with a 16 year old and get a long prison term as a sex offender then a sign on your lawn. Do a home invasion with your home boys, beat the crap out of everybody including kids, perhaps causing permanent mental and physical injury, rob, destroy, loot, kill the dog and get a couple of years if that and then be considered 'rehabilitated'.

This sex offender P.C. thing is out of control.

Just wait 'til a practical joker or someone with a grudge starts posting a fake sign or moving the signs to someone else's house and someone innocent gets killed or firebombed.

Why stop here? Let's require sex offenders to wear a Scarlet "P".
