Men's hairstyles go longer (AP: More American men embracing dandyish European metrosexuality)
Associated Press ^ | December 15, 2005 | Amanda Cuda

Posted on 12/15/2005 5:45:08 PM PST by presidio9

There was a time when men's hairstyles only came in one form: short. Close-cropped, clean cut and, frankly, a bit dull, short was pretty much it when it came to cutting men's hair.

-snip-

Braso attributes the new hairstyles to men's fashion trends that favor romantic fabrics like velvet. "Everything in fashion is sort of romantic and soft, almost dandyish," he said. "In a way, hair is sort of following that."

-snip-

But Braso said not to discount fashion as a factor in the move toward longer locks. As a whole, he said, men are edging closer to a hair-consciousness that's always been the rage in Europe. In England, for example, mid-length hair on men has been popular for a long time.

Now, American guys are adopting the trend to suit their sensibilities. That means it's longer and softer -- but still controllable. "American men don't like that real wild look," Braso said. "Their hair is a little more styled, and fixed and finished." It's not just length that's seeping into men's hair fashion. Braso said that sideburns are also fashionable for men, and Tuozzoli said that more young men are coloring their hair.

Tuozzoli said he's seen an increasing number of men opt for highlights or other color. One recent customer even had his hair bleached at the salon.

-snip-

Maybe it's just the fallout from the recent metrosexual trend in men's grooming, but guys do seem to be paying more attention to their hair. Tuozzoli said that men are far more likely to consult a fashion or entertainment magazine for hairstyle ideas than they were in the past.

"Men are more influenced by fashion than they were a decade ago," Tuozzoli said.

Braso agrees. "Men know exactly what they want from their hair these days," he said.

Check that metrosexual out in the photo in the post. He's growing breasts! He's not really a man at all!

News Flash: American Men Wear Their Hair Whatever Way They Have To In Order To Get Laid.

That goes for clothes, too. I never thought those ugly-ass flare pants would come back into style, but I see guys wearing them all the time. Madness.

Braso said that sideburns are also fashionable for men

This is what is causing them to say that. Of course, that's presuming that you take your styling cues from gay Hollywood movies as they are presuming all of us do. Remember when Madonna's fashions in "Evita" were supposed to signal a huge change in women's fashions? It never happened. Probably won't happen here either.

By the way, STOP the emo haircuts guys!

OK

You realize that you have personally ended this major cultural trend by your "totally inappropriate post?"

congratulations.

Me? I already have the beard, and I'm now thinking of growing my hair out in the style you suggest in honor of The One you invoke.

Again, congratulations.

And Merry Christmas

As the saying goes, He is the reason for the season. I trust that we can get beyond the "war on Christmas" arguments about whether to allow or suppress the phrase "merry Christmas" and begin to get down to the discussion of the true significance of what it is we are celebrating.

And I do mean celebrating.

I like my hair long- and so does my wife.
Unfortunately, there's this whole "job" thing to worry about. So I keep it above the top of the collar.

Given a choice, I'd have my hair in a ponytail and my beard long enough to braid.
And no, my look with long hair is more Viking warrior than Metrosexual.

"Men know exactly what they want from their hair these days,"

That made me crack up..because I was thinking of my husband and if I said "Hun, do you know exactly what you want from your hair these days?" he'd look at me like I had three heads.

Just another lame atempt to again make straight men behave like women.

You can't take any man who puts highlights in hair seriously in any business environment.

Notice now it is EURPOPEAN metrosexuality. They are trying to sell dressing like a homo as ok because it is EEEUROpean.

There is a sucker born every minute.

Close-cropped, clean cut and, frankly, a bit dull...

So? It's like I told my first ex-wife: "Stop trying to turn me into a heterosexual faggot." I had to remind her of that every time she bought me anything purple or tried to bug me into getting a manicure or going a hair stylist.

And now they call that same thing "metrosexual."

Guh...every time I see an outfit like that, my first response is. "Wow. And where do you store your testicles now?"

I’m the shy boy
You’re the coy boy
And you know we’re
Homosapien too
I’m the cruiser
You’re the loser
Me and you sir
Homosapien too
Homosuperior
In my interior
But from the skin out
I’m homosapien too
And you’re homosapien too
And I’m homosapien like you
And we’re homosapien too

Shaved all of it off 3 years ago. Got tired of trying to work with half a head of hair. Besides, the hair didn't respect me enough to stay on my head so to hell with it.

Bald is great.

Bald is great.

Not only that ... if you're an astute baldy you can get a hair cut for half price ... just give'em a big tip.
