The Threat Matrix

The title refers to a daily report given to the president of the United States detailing the most serious terrorist threats against the country. To tackle those threats, the government has formed a top-notch task force to infiltrate the terror cells and cut off the danger.

"Every morning, the president receives a list of the top ten terrorist threats - this list is known as the threat matrix."

We here at FR are trying to be in conjunction with the daily reports around the world that involve threats. We try to provide a storehouse of information that takes hours of research.

He hasn't been heard from in more than a year, but one news site reports that it has obtained a new tape of al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden.

But U.S. officials are skeptical of the report, CBS News reports.

The story from Pajhwok Afghan News, dated Tuesday, describes a new 30-minute tape with a message from Taliban commander Mullah Dodallah and the al Qaeda leader, according to the IntelCenter, a U.S. government contractor that does work for intelligence agencies.

A thought just occured to me. John Batchelor over at American Spectator's new blog is saying that Ahmadinejad and his cleric have both disappeared. They missed an important meeting a few days back and have since gone AWOL from Tehran. Two things occured to me:

1) Either they've been killed (unlikely, we'd be aware of the immediate power struggle that would ensue)

2) They're getting out of dodge, because they're expecting an imminent attack by Israel, or

3) They're awaiting some kind of terrorist attack or assassination which will result in some kind of retaliation on Iran.


After yesterday's Hamas victory, option #2 looks like it could happen and maybe within a week. The Israelis can deal with Iran's nuclear program and send a crystal clear message to Hamas that it hasn't gone soft in any way...


Just some thoughts.

Just wow...when will it all end! When will we start addressing our border problems with viable solutions? The drain on our resources and safety is through the roof. I feel sorry for all of the land owners along our borders. What a mess they must deal with on a daily basis, and with little or no help from the authorities.

Prayer is very powerful. I couldn't survive without it. As much as I wanted to hide under the bed after 9/11, I picked myself up on 9/12 and went back to the city. We can never let them win. But I believe they are very patient and waiting for that opportunity. The saddest part to me is that our children will never know life in the USA as we knew it.

They are akin to our “honor”, and we are Easterners. I will not tolerate anyone who messes with my honor, and the weapons of the Resistance are our honor.”Test

This clear and direct statement is laden with content and meaning that should draw clear and decisive responses from across the spectrum in Lebanon, as well as from all the Arab governments. For do they really share Nasrallah's concept of these weapons? And is this shocking unilateral “sanctification” of Hezbollah's weapons leaves any room for peaceful debate and dialogue about weapons that now have divine attributes and pertain to concepts of honor?

It thus becomes obvious that Hezbollah Shiite Armed Militia knows exactly what it wants and does not miss any opportunity to stubbornly declare its constant positions, and challenging everyone domestically and, at the same time, rejecting all provisions of what it calls the “Israeli-American” UN Resolution 1559.

We need to be mindful that Hezbollah fought the last Lebanese Parliamentary elections in 2005 from behind Syria's Intelligence notorious Chief Ghazi Kanaan's electoral law and arming itself with a legitimacy mandate, leaving the voters but one of two choices: Either you're with the Israeli enemy and UN Resolution 1559, or you're with Hezbollah and its liberationist weapons! Hezbollah's leadership has now taken the next step.

Unlike all other Lebanese political forces, it continues to insist, day in and day out, on keeping its weapons and privileges irrespective of the pressures, and now has shrouded these weapons with the halo of sanctity, linking it to the concept of “honor” and thus making it untouchable."

Even though I grew-up in the 70's & 80's, the changes make it feel like it was fifty years ago. We would run and play in acres of woods behind our home for hours on end, with our siblings and friends. Our only requirement was to be home in time for dinner. Your parents always told you to beware of strangers. But no one I knew had ever been approached. Sadly, my sons will never have that same freedom. When we walk through the woods, they always have my husband or myself with them.

And the way that everything is changing around the world, I don't think that they will ever experience a time when terrorism and the shadow of threats doesn't exist.
