This group may be called friends of Iraq.

It also maybe part of the 'green movement', the odd thing is that all the posts that I checked have a download, some say "Doc", others do not and are in the 600 size.

You can reach the main page, by clicking the name at the top, the posts are often several days apart.

There are other groups on the main page.

Ukraine considers full Crimea quarantine to halt bird flu
17 Dec 2005 13:41:36 GMT

KIEV, Dec 17 (Reuters) - Ukrainian officials on Saturday considered imposing a quarantine throughout the Crimea peninsula to contain an outbreak of the potentially deadly H5N1 strain of bird flu affecting more than a dozen villages.

Romania detects suspected new cases of bird flu

Romania found suspected new bird flu cases in a village some 80 km from Bucharest on Thursday night, an official from the country's Health Ministry told Xinhua on Friday.

The suspected new cases were found in hens in the Rovine village of Ialomita. This is the fifth county in the country to be hit by the disease, said health ministry official Sorin Chelmu.

The Health Ministry held a meeting on Friday morning and decided to take emergency measures to stop the pandemic from spreading west and infecting the country's capital.

The county government of Ialomita has had all the poultry in the village culled and the public health institutions have vaccinated local residents and quarantined the village while disinfecting all its henhouses.

KIEV, December 16 (RIA Novosti) - The strain of the bird flu virus that is extremely dangerous for humans, H5N1, has been found in four more villages in the Crimea, an autonomy on the Black Sea, the Ukrainian Emergency Situations Ministry said Friday.

The ministry said that the virus had been registered in a total of 15 Crimean villages.

More than 59,000 birds were removed from farms and culled. No humans have been diagnosed with the bird flu virus, the ministry added.

U.S. working to keep out deadly bird flu -USDA
15 Dec 2005 22:07:24 GMT

By Bob Burgdorfer

CHICAGO, Dec 15 (Reuters) - The fight to keep the deadly bird flu out of the United States has scientists checking migratory birds on the West Coast, monitoring live bird markets here, and working with Asian scientists to fight the disease overseas, said a U.S. agriculture official on Thursday.

"I think we are all very aware that it certainly could happen through the migratory bird patterns that fly up from the Russian peninsula over to the Alaskan peninsula and fly down that Western coast," Richard Raymond, USDA's undersecretary for food safety, said in a telephone interview.

As a result, scientists are testing migratory birds on the West Coast for the disease, he said.

British lab confirms presence of H5N1 virus in Ukraine
www.chinaview.cn 2005-12-17 22:43:01
KIEV, Dec. 17 (Xinhuanet) -- A British laboratory has confirmed the presence of the deadly H5N1 strain of bird flu in Ukraine's Crimea, the Ukrainian Agriculture Ministry said on Saturday.

Test results from the Veterinary Lab Agency (VLA) in Weybridge, which has the EU's highest authority, confirmed poultry that begandying in large numbers in Crimea three weeks ago was infected withH5N1, a spokesman for the ministry was quoted by the Interfax newsagency as saying.

About 60,000 domestic fowls have been slaughtered in Crimea since the first case of bird was detected in the area's northeastern corner in early December.

President Viktor Yushchenko announced last week a state of emergency in the affected areas. Up to now, no human cases of the disease have been reported in Ukraine.

TAMPA - Hatem Fariz, co-defendant of Sami Al-Arian, asked the federal court Thursday to dismiss the remaining
eight counts of the conspiracy indictment against him.

Fariz was acquitted on 25 counts on Dec. 6. When jurors could not reach a verdict on eight counts, U.S. District
Judge James Moody Jr. declared a mistrial for those counts. Prosecutors have not yet said whether they will retry
him. Fariz, who lives in Spring Hill, is free on bond.

Iraq hostage negotiator is missing, source says; Believed abducted after contacting group holding four activists
Liberal MP says he's unaware of latest
feared kidnapping

An Iraqi hostage negotiator who reportedly made contact with the kidnappers of Toronto peace activist James
Loney and three other Western volunteers is believed to have been abducted himself.

A source told the Toronto Star the local negotiator has not been heard from since Thursday and had recently met
face-to-face with members of the group believed to have kidnapped the activists.

The negotiator had worked in the past on other high-profile kidnappings, said the source, who spoke on the
condition of anonymity.

Little has been said publicly about the fate of 41-year-old Loney, fellow Canadian Harmeet Singh Sooden, 32, Briton
Norman Kember, 74, and American Tom Fox, 54, since a deadline set by the kidnappers passed last Saturday. And
their colleagues in Baghdad have heard nothing.

The men were kidnapped in Baghdad Nov. 26. They were there as part of the Christian Peacemaker Teams, a group
dedicated to spreading peace in conflict zones.

The most recent video released by the kidnappers threatened to kill the four last Saturday if detainees in Iraqi and
U.S. prisons were not freed.

The abductors identified themselves on the two videos they've released of the hostages as the Swords of the
Righteous Brigade, a previously unknown organization. Rita Katz, director of the SITE Institute, a Washington-based
organization that monitors terrorist websites, believes this name is a cover for another group.

Beirut Funeral Kindles Fury Toward Syria

BEIRUT, Dec. 14 -- In an outpouring of grief and fury, tens of thousands of Lebanese buried a prominent journalist,
lawmaker and opponent of Syria on Wednesday, transforming his funeral into a protest against the Syrian
government, blamed by many here for detonating a car bomb that hurled his vehicle over a pine-studded hillside.

The crowds that gathered to pay respects to Gebran Tueni were the largest in Lebanon since protests this spring in
Martyrs' Square helped force Syria to end its 29-year military presence here. Waving flags and banners, many came
to show their fidelity: "Gebran lives through us!" they shouted. Others, directing their anger at Syria and its
president, Bashar Assad, yelled: "We want your head, Bashar!"

Tueni, a bold, controversial figure in Lebanese politics, was killed Monday, a day after his return from Paris, where
he had stayed off and on for weeks fearing an attempt on his life. He was the fourth Syrian opponent to be killed
here since a series of bombings began Feb. 14 with the assassination of former prime minister Rafiq Hariri.

British antiterror operations 'up 75 percent' since bombings

The Metropolitan Police commissioner, Sir Ian Blair, has told a conference in London that there has been a 75
percent increase in the number of antiterrorism operations carried out by Scotland Yard since the July 7 bombings in
London. The Evening Standard reports that British counterterrorism officers are now receiving high-grade
intelligence reports daily, rather than monthly, in the wake of the attacks. Mr. Blair said three further "conspiracies"
had been stopped since the summer.

Blair portrayed the threat to Britain as a serious one.

"There are people in the UK as we speak who are planning mass atrocities and who will use suicide as a weapon.
That is a different place to where we have been in my lifetime and in my service."

[Blair] added: "What matters is that the terrorists are here. They are going to go on trying to kill people like you
and people like me. We have to find the right methodology, community relationships and legislative framework to
defeat them."

Security officials say that another terror attack on London, involving a cell of four Britons, was thwarted within the
past two weeks. But The Guardian reports that some British politicians criticized Blair for making a vague statement
at such a sensitive time.

Mark Oaten, the Liberal Democrat home affairs spokesman, said: "At best, these kind of statements reassure
people that the police are pulling out the stops. At worst, they frighten members of the public. We can surely be
given a more detailed threat assessment without jeopardizing ongoing operations."

Blair has also been the subject of criticism for the way he and his department handled the immediate aftermath of
the July 7 bombings in London and the subsequent police shooting of an innocent person.

Bin Laden no longer head of al-Qaida operations, envoy says

WASHINGTON - There is no evidence that Osama bin Laden is still able to direct al-Qaida operations from his secret
mountain lair, the U.S. envoy to Pakistan said Monday.

Ambassador Ryan Crocker, echoing recent comments by American and Pakistani officials, said the al-Qaida overlord
is cut off from the outside world.

"I think that Osama bin Laden is no longer the operational head of al-Qaida, because he is hiding deep inside the
mountains and he doesn't have contact with al-Qaida people," Crocker told reporters.

For Immediate Release
Office of the Press Secretary
December 17, 2005

Radio Address by the President to the Nation
The Roosevelt Room

10:06 A.M. EST

THE PRESIDENT: Good morning.

As President, I took an oath to defend the Constitution, and I have no greater responsibility than to protect our people, our freedom, and our way of life. On September the 11th, 2001, our freedom and way of life came under attack by brutal enemies who killed nearly 3,000 innocent Americans. We're fighting these enemies across the world. Yet in this first war of the 21st century, one of the most critical battlefronts is the home front. And since September the 11th, we've been on the offensive against the terrorists plotting within our borders.

One of the first actions we took to protect America after our nation was attacked was to ask Congress to pass the Patriot Act. The Patriot Act tore down the legal and bureaucratic wall that kept law enforcement and intelligence authorities from sharing vital information about terrorist threats. And the Patriot Act allowed federal investigators to pursue terrorists with tools they already used against other criminals. Congress passed this law with a large, bipartisan majority, including a vote of 98-1 in the United States Senate.

Since then, America's law enforcement personnel have used this critical law to prosecute terrorist operatives and supporters, and to break up terrorist cells in New York, Oregon, Virginia, California, Texas and Ohio. The Patriot Act has accomplished exactly what it was designed to do: it has protected American liberty and saved American lives.

Yet key provisions of this law are set to expire in two weeks. The terrorist threat to our country will not expire in two weeks. The terrorists want to attack America again, and inflict even greater damage than they did on September the 11th. Congress has a responsibility to ensure that law enforcement and intelligence officials have the tools they need to protect the American people.

The House of Representatives passed reauthorization of the Patriot Act. Yet a minority of senators filibustered to block the renewal of the Patriot Act when it came up for a vote yesterday. That decision is irresponsible, and it endangers the lives of our citizens. The senators who are filibustering must stop their delaying tactics, and the Senate must vote to reauthorize the Patriot Act. In the war on terror, we cannot afford to be without this law for a single moment.

To fight the war on terror, I am using authority vested in me by Congress, including the Joint Authorization for Use of Military Force, which passed overwhelmingly in the first week after September the 11th. I'm also using constitutional authority vested in me as Commander-in-Chief.

In the weeks following the terrorist attacks on our nation, I authorized the National Security Agency, consistent with U.S. law and the Constitution, to intercept the international communications of people with known links to al Qaeda and related terrorist organizations. Before we intercept these communications, the government must have information that establishes a clear link to these terrorist networks.

This is a highly classified program that is crucial to our national security. Its purpose is to detect and prevent terrorist attacks against the United States, our friends and allies. Yesterday the existence of this secret program was revealed in media reports, after being improperly provided to news organizations. As a result, our enemies have learned information they should not have, and the unauthorized disclosure of this effort damages our national security and puts our citizens at risk. Revealing classified information is illegal, alerts our enemies, and endangers our country.

As the 9/11 Commission pointed out, it was clear that terrorists inside the United States were communicating with terrorists abroad before the September the 11th attacks, and the commission criticized our nation's inability to uncover links between terrorists here at home and terrorists abroad. Two of the terrorist hijackers who flew a jet into the Pentagon, Nawaf al Hamzi and Khalid al Mihdhar, communicated while they were in the United States to other members of al Qaeda who were overseas. But we didn't know they were here, until it was too late.

The authorization I gave the National Security Agency after September the 11th helped address that problem in a way that is fully consistent with my constitutional responsibilities and authorities. The activities I have authorized make it more likely that killers like these 9/11 hijackers will be identified and located in time. And the activities conducted under this authorization have helped detect and prevent possible terrorist attacks in the United States and abroad.

The activities I authorized are reviewed approximately every 45 days. Each review is based on a fresh intelligence assessment of terrorist threats to the continuity of our government and the threat of catastrophic damage to our homeland. During each assessment, previous activities under the authorization are reviewed. The review includes approval by our nation's top legal officials, including the Attorney General and the Counsel to the President. I have reauthorized this program more than 30 times since the September the 11th attacks, and I intend to do so for as long as our nation faces a continuing threat from al Qaeda and related groups.

The NSA's activities under this authorization are thoroughly reviewed by the Justice Department and NSA's top legal officials, including NSA's general counsel and inspector general. Leaders in Congress have been briefed more than a dozen times on this authorization and the activities conducted under it. Intelligence officials involved in this activity also receive extensive training to ensure they perform their duties consistent with the letter and intent of the authorization.

This authorization is a vital tool in our war against the terrorists. It is critical to saving American lives. The American people expect me to do everything in my power under our laws and Constitution to protect them and their civil liberties. And that is exactly what I will continue to do, so long as I'm the President of the United States.

Thank you.

END 10:13 A.M. EST

Apparent assassination attempt on Iran's president. Saw this on LGF. This is not a good sign. I doubt it was our guys or Mossad, they would have finished the job. Probably a setup to pin the blame on Isreal and fan the flames of war.

Iran President's Bodyguard Dies in Ambush

December 17, 2005
Iran Focus
iranfocus.com

Tehran, Iran -- One of the bodyguards of Iran’s President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was killed and another wounded when an attempt to ambush the presidential motorcade was thwarted in the southeastern province of Sistan and Baluchestan, according to a semi-official newspaper and local residents.

“At 6:50 pm on Thursday, the lead car in the presidential motorcade confronted armed bandits and trouble-makers on the Zabol-Saravan highway”, the semi-official Jomhouri Islami reported on Saturday.

“In the ensuing armed clash, the driver of the vehicle, who was an indigenous member of the security services, and one of the president’s bodyguards died, while another bodyguard was wounded”, the newspaper, which was founded by Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, wrote.

Ahmadinejad traveled to the restive province, where ethnic Baluchis have been fighting for years for autonomy, on Wednesday and returned to Tehran on Friday afternoon. Tehran often refers to anti-government activists and political opponents of the Islamist regime as “bandits” and “trouble-makers”.

The newspaper report made no mention of Ahmadinejad’s whereabouts during the attack on his bodyguards’ vehicle, but Zabol residents reached by telephone said there were rumors in the town that the hard-line president himself was the target of the attack, which took place near Zabol.

“Many people have been rounded up for questioning after the attack and the authorities here were clearly shaken by the incident”, a Zabol resident told Iran Focus.

The Sunni Baluchis have faced years of religious and racial discrimination under Iran’s Shiite clergy-dominated government.

Ahmadinejad called the Holocaust a “myth” on Wednesday, on the first day of his trip to the province.

“They have fabricated a legend under the name 'Massacre of the Jews', and they hold it higher than God himself, religion itself and the prophets themselves”, he told a crowd in Zahedan, the provincial capital of Sistan and Baluchestan.

The presidential office and other government officials have refrained from making any comment on the ambush.

Iran’s state-controlled media have given much prominence to Ahmadinejad’s visit to the impoverished province.

FYI Mohamed Younes and his association with the American Muslim Union, was mentioned frequently earlier this year when the Egyptian Coptic Christian family was slaughtered in Northern New Jersey.

Prominent N.J. Muslim Detained (NJ - 12/17/05)

(AP) NEWARK, N.J. For years, Mohamed Younes protested the questioning and detention of Muslim and Arab-American air travelers when they were stopped at airports on security grounds. Now, it has happened to him.

An elder in Paterson's Muslim community — and a close friend of top FBI officials in New Jersey — Younes says the very thing he has been railing against when it happened to others embarrassed and humiliated him during a business trip last weekend to Thailand and the United Arab Emirates.

Younes, 65, who owns a fabric dyeing company in Paterson, was trying to fly home from Thailand on a business trip last Sunday when a representative of Emirates Airlines said he would not be permitted to board. He asked why, and said he was told "it was an order from the American Embassy, and they have no control over it in Thailand."...
