December 14, 2005) Alderman Edward M. Burke (14th) joined fellow colleagues today in introducing a City Council resolution that won approval condemning the Reverend Robert Reynolds, the head of the Chicago Presbytery of the Presbyterian Church USA, for his recent controversial meeting with a Hezbollah commander in the Middle East.

Hezobollah is a terrorist organization which has attacked American embassies, hijacked an American airliner, kidnapped American hostages and is responsible for "innumerable assaults on innocent people," the resolution noted.

"I cannot fathom why a top Chicago religious leader would lend legitimacy to a terror organization which has committed so many atrocities against innocent people," Alderman Burke said.

Maybe because Presbyterian USA is one of the "churches" that allow homosexual marriage, etc.? Presbyterian church split a couple of decades ago because this bunch wanted to trash God's Word and head out on their own (using Christ's name, of course). PCA ( Presbyterian Church of America) and PCUSA are very different churches. PCA is a believing church while PCUSA believes that it's best to do whatever society deems politically correct.

Liberal churches worship themselves and whatever makes themselves feel good at that moment.

"All of Chicago should be aghast that Reverend Reynolds would display such a total lack of judgment," Alderman Stone added. "Perhaps he should have taken the time instead to talk to the families of those many innocent people who have been killed by Hezbollah in terror attacks so that he could hear firsthand about the pain and loss that Hezbollah’s actions have brought to their families."

The synogogue in my mother's town requested a meeting with the local Presbyterian USA churches because the Presbyterians are against the wall on the Isreali border and have been encouraging divestment from Isreal.

Unfortunately a number of parishes among Anglicans, Presbyterians and others got infected with Socialist ideologies, and they in effect ceased to be Christians. Fortunately not all are infected, but quite many. They became in the essence liberal-socialists playing Christians.

Like the National Council of Churches, it is a Church that is OF this world, not IN it. A place where people can go, feel good about themselves, and change nothing in their lives or outlook. Or maybe it is simpler to say it is a church of unbelievers. What they preach are worldly causes, twisting scripture to justify their pet causes. The cause is first, God second. Sounds like the perfect sort of place for Jesse Jackson.

That makes the PCUSA no better than the America First movement and other Nazi fronts and collaborative movements that littered the United States in the late 1930s. Standing behind tyrants and murderers is not something I would expect of true believers.

I live in Canada, so that may explain some things. But there are quite a number of believing Christians that embrace socialism – out of pure ignorance. Even many that vote for socialist and ungodly political parties – simply because they don’t have a clue what it is they are voting for.

It's very distressing that a Presbyterian elder and representative would conduct official meetings with a terrorist group.

At one time it was a fine church. Now it has no problem with partial-birth abortion.

Makes me wonder about the whole tax-exempt/church thing. Today many "churches" are simply activist groups using Christ's name as a backdrop. Then there are the groups who worship the god of trees/abortions/etc. yet are not churches.
