Why would he? The guy violated the law as written and the judge took an oath to uphold the law.
As for dressing down the metro cop? He's just doing his job. I agree there is a fight here, but the good ol boys in congress or the city council or whoever came up with this law are the ones to go after.

Then let him stand trial, find him guilty, fine him $10 and walk. Then present to the legislature the bill for court time and cost, which is at least the cost of a traffic court appearence. For a damn $1.75 token. When Marta can't fix its broken machines.

Not at all. Equity consists in recognizing when the law is an ass. The aim behind the law is barely legitimate, but it is not even being furthered here. Any judge who enforces this is an ass, too.

$1.75, I agree that this is a case for jury nulification. the law may be the law, but in this case it is ridiculous.
In fact, prosecuting this law is so "over the top" that the taxpayers should remove whoever wrote it from office too.
