Bush Accepts McCain's Ban on Torture

White House Agrees to McCain Torture Ban Move Comes After House and Senate Back Language By LIZ SIDOTI, AP

WASHINGTON (Dec. 15) - After months of resistance, the White House has agreed to accept Sen. John McCain's call for a law specifically banning cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment of foreign suspects in the war on terror, several congressional officials said Thursday.

The congressional officials spoke on condition of anonymity, saying they did not want to pre-empt an expected announcement later in the day at the White House, possibly by President Bush and McCain.

These officials also cautioned the agreement was encountering opposition in the House from Rep. Duncan Hunter, R-Calif., the chairman of the House Armed Services Committee.

Wednesday, in a symbolic move, the House endorsed the Senate-passed ban. Approved 308-122, the procedural vote in the House puts political pressure on negotiators - but does not require them - to include the ban and another provision standardizing interrogation techniques used by U.S. troops in a final wartime military spending bill.

McCain wins, America loses.

We might as well start forming up the Commission for Analyzing the Next attack on the United States. This bill will have the same effect as the reforms imposed on the CIA to avoid using "Bad Guys."

Ultimately we will lose alot of American lives and the blame will be because we couldn't get crucial information. And, there will be a round of recriminations and saying if we only knew.. But, we do know that this is a mistake.

McCain needs to be held accountable for his betrayals, he had better hope the Republicans don't lose the Senate majority because then it would be open season on RINOs.

I will never give this party a dime, and will sit out vote even though I am a chief judge at polls.

Yeah, torture is the bisggest proof of patriotism.

This has nothing to do with torture. Torture is already illegal.

This is about extending the torture ban to include degrading treatment, as defined by the lawyers of jihadists.

But then, I don't expect anyone who considers McCain and Hegel to be heros to understand that.

Just having McCain in the GOP RINO herd is cruel and unusual punishment. He is a mean spirited arse who would use torture in a heartbeat if it would make him President.

You know what Hagel's role was in Vietnam -

Put his Plane deliberatery in range of SAM battery, so it would be fired upon, dodge the SAM (that moved required highest skill because you had to wait till the last moment), and then destroy the SAM battery.

Highest, casualy rate in the war for those pilots.

They did multiple missions a day.

Yeah, HAGEL is a HERO.

So is Mcain.

You are nothing.

First, stomp the First Amendment. Now, coddle terrorists.

Bush Jr. sure likes to roll over for McCain, doesn't he? Makes you wonder what McCain has on him.

It's called the Wild Weasel mission, putz. And hundreds of AF officers have been flying it for a long time without self-aggrandizement like your hero Hagel.

Interesting to see how quickly you resort to personal attacks when your pathetic world view is challenged.

Now be a good little kid and run back to play with your little playmates in the DU kindergarten.

That's nice. But this bill still bans degrading treatment, as defined by the lawyers of Islamic terrorists. And that's a horrifying concept.

I'll give you a few minutes to come up with another witty insult to refute this fact.

HOW SOON 9/11 IS FORGOTTEN!! THESE MORON POLITICIANS STILL DON'T GET IT. It started with the Miranda decision and we've gone full circle. This is comparable when the Sen. Church Amendment hamstrung the CIA years back, which culminated in lousy intelligence.
