Rasmussen: 32% Favor Bush Impeachment
Rasmussen Reports ^ | December 15, 2005

Posted on 12/15/2005 9:56:32 AM PST by RWR8189

December 15, 2005--Thirty-two percent (32%) of Americans believe that President George W. Bush should be impeached and removed from office. Fifty-eight percent (58%) take the opposite view.

However, just 30% of Americans would be more likely to vote for a Congressional candidate who promised to work for the impeachment of Bush and Cheney. Fifty-two percent (52%) would be less likely to vote for such a candidate.

Results by gender, age, party, income, and other demographic subsets are available for Premium Members.

The Rasmussen Reports survey of 1,000 adults was commissioned by After Downing Street, a coalition working "to pressure both Congress and the media to investigate whether President Bush has committed impeachable offenses in connection with the Iraq war."

The number who support impeachment is very similar to the 33% who believe it is impossible for the United States mission in Iraq to succeed.

Thirty-five percent (35%) of Americans believe Vice President Cheney should be impeached and removed from office.

The impeachment of President Bush is favored by a plurality (49%) of Democrats. However, it is opposed by 84% of Republicans and 55% of those not affiliated with either major political party.

Democrats, by a 47% to 28% margin, say they are more likely to vote for a candidate who supports impeachment. Eighty percent (80%) of Republicans are less likely to do so.

Unaffiliateds, by a 46% to 29% margin, are less likely to vote for a candidate promising to work for impeachment.

The Rasmussen Reports ElectionEdge Premium Service for Election 2006 provides the most comprehensive public opinion coverage ever provided for a mid-term election. Every race for Governor and U.S. Senate will be polled at least once a month in 2006.

Rasmussen Reports was the nation's most accurate polling firm during the 2004 Presidential election and the only one to project both Bush and Kerry's vote total within half a percentage point of the actual outcome.

During Election 2004, RasmussenReports.com was also the top-ranked public opinion research site on the web. We had twice as many visitors as our nearest competitor and nearly as many as all competitors combined.

Scott Rasmussen, president of Rasmussen Reports, has been an independent pollster for more than a decade.

I'd support an impeachment of George Bush... but only if they can actually find a 'REAL' reason and not some silly haliburton fantasy.

I'd say that signing the admittedly-unconstitutional CFR in direct violation of his oath of office should be grounds.

Check the breakdown: not even a majority of Dems think the President should be impeached. Over 50% of Dems do think that Cheney should get the axe.

Here's the big question, though: why is this news? A minority of Americans believe that a sitting President should be impeached while there is no impeachment-related proceeding going on.

This doesnt surprise me. This same 32% would get in Kennedys car and take a ride across a narrow bridge.

They are the Lemmings of the Dem party.

no surprise, the highest percentage is from those earning less than 20K and age 18-29.

In other words LW moonbat college students.

Lagniappe: guess which group of eligible voters is least likely to vote?

For what?

You get right to the point. The fact that they are even doing such a poll is a sign of blatant bias. The president has not been charged with any high crimes or misdemeanors, nor has there even been the slightest indication of a move to do such a thing, yet they are doing a poll about impeachment!

It's a very bad polling question.

If they went to any Congressional District and asked "Do you think Congressmen Smith (whoever) should be forced to resign because of ethical violations", you'd probably get a quarter saying yes, even if Congressmen Smith was the cleanest politician in the world.

The pollster has given the respondents the implicit message that Bush has done something worth impeachment. If you asked those who said yes "what should Bush be impeached for?" a good chunk of them would change their minds and say that he should not be impeached.

"there is a sizable population that thinks Clinton wasn't impeached"

My late father was a lawyer and a smart guy, but even he didn't understand the concept of impeachment; like many, he thought "impeached" means "removed from office," and we got into an argument about whether Clinton was impeached.

It depends how the poll frames it's questions. I.E. "If President Bush lied the country about Iraq should he be impeached".

First impressions of this article is distturbing.

Why is this "push poll" done when the Iraqi elections are happening and Bush's approval is on the increase?

60% of the American people don't want the President impeached. The moonbats are fluttering around, flapping their gums. Nothing will come of their fantasy.

Don't those weiners realize what they would get if W was impeached? Dick "Big Time" Cheney. I'm pretty sure the VP would govern to the right of W if installed as the head rock. Perhaps they would rethink their opinions if presented with that fact. Oh wait, that would require the capacity for intelligent thought...
