Democrats under fire over fish parody By Ralph Thomas
Seattle Times Olympia bureau
OLYMPIA The state Democratic Party is catching heat for posting an item on its Web site that parodies the popular Christian fish symbol commonly seen on the back of cars.
The item a magnetic version of the fish, emblazoned with flames and the word "Hypocrite" alongside a cross appeared last week on the Democrats' Web site. It was displayed along with other political-message magnets, bumper stickers and buttons that the party sells.
State Democratic Party Chairman Paul Berendt said he first found out about the hypocrite fish posting on Friday when someone from KIRO radio called to ask him to go on the air to give an explanation.
"The moment I became aware of it, I insisted it be taken down," Berendt said Tuesday. "I'm sorry if anyone was offended. It's embarrassing."
Berendt said the item had not been "properly vetted" and was on the Web site for less than 48 hours. He said the party didn't even have any of the magnets in stock.
"We didn't sell any of them, and we're not going to," he said.
State Rep. Doug Ericksen, R-Bellingham, put out a news release Tuesday criticizing the Democrats for posting what he described as an "anti-Christian" symbol.
"It's just amazing that they have people sitting in their office who think that way," Ericksen said. "You would never see anything on a Republican Web site demeaning Judaism or the Islamic faith."
The fish magnet is copyrighted by a Mount Vernon company called Reefer Magnets. The company mostly sells magnets with pro-marijuana messages such as "Hemp is Patriotic" and "Jesus is coming, roll another joint."
Berendt said he wasn't sure what the fish symbol is supposed to mean but said he thinks it is aimed at "people who claim to be pro-life but are for the death penalty."

So much for the Defeatocrat party's claim to also being a party of faith. The state party chairman doesn't even have a clue what the fish symbol represents.
he thinks it is aimed at "people who claim to be pro-life but are for the death penalty."
Earning the ole Dumbocrat moniker in a big way this week.
Oh ....and should someone say ANYTHING about Islam they are the first to spout forth accusations, yet they have no problem mocking Christianity. Although to be honest I hope they continue doing exactly that .....they just make themselves look even loonier than they normally are. For example imagine if an independent stumbled across DU. LOL.
You said it. To them, anti-abortion and pro-death penalty is hypocritical, but pro-abortion and anti-death penalty is not.
I prefer the term Dumpcrap.
This coming from people who claim to be against the death penalty, but see nothing wrong with starving an innocent disabled woman to death.
Exactly, they have no problem with killing innocents by the tens of millions, but raise hell when one guilty one dies.
There is NO moral equivalence between abortion and the death penalty.
Ironic, isn't it...that the defeatocrats would have the gall to accuse others of hypocrisy when they are personally guilty of EXACTLY that. Clearly, the Dims only care about protecting the guilty...the innocent should have their brains sucked out minutes before they're born.
Worse. There is a logic to say "the innocent should be protected and the guilty should be punished." To say "the innocent should be killed but a multiple-murderer should be nominated for a Nobel Prize" is deranged. Liberalism really is a thought disorder!
Okay, we can officially call this guy a "dumb-o-crat."
I don't necessarily agree with that sentiment, but it is clear the Democrat party has become increasingly unfriendly to deeply religious Christians.
Those who practice their Christianity "culturally" or only occasionally--that is, those who don't think their religion is extremely important to their daily lives--may not see this hostility. But I believe it exists.
Here's a refrigerator magnet they sell there:

If it wasn't long distance, I'd try to explain to this dolt "what the fish symbol is supposed to mean".

"The moment I became aware of it, I insisted it be taken down," Berendt said Tuesday. "I'm sorry if anyone was offended. It's embarrassing."
Then he says:
" he wasn't sure what the fish symbol is supposed to mean..."
So why would he take it down if it had no meaning to him?
Lying sack of crap. He's sorry the real image of what the democrat party is all about slipped out is all.
LOL....the devil made them do it!
I find it ironic that the very symbol of Christianity's early years as an underground, persecuted movement is now being used to persecute again.
It's Crazy How They Usurp Symbols.
Parody is a nice word for it.
Communists have no room for religion.
