Child Killer Was a Pothead
Accuracy in Media ^ | December 15, 2005 | Cliff Kincaid

The George Soros-funded campaign to legalize marijuana has run into a problem. Joseph Smith, convicted and sentenced to death for the abduction, rape and murder of 11-year-old Carlie Brucia, has been exposed as a pothead. In an unsuccessful ploy to spare his life, his attorneys argued that he was a drug addict, used drugs on the occasion of the Brucia murder, and began his involvement with drugs by smoking marijuana. It looks like marijuana didn't have many "medical benefits" in this case.

Why first?

To avoid causing drug induced psychosis in persons so prone, but who are not interested in drugs. Mentally ill people seek self-medication. They also seek others to medicate with - who wants to "toke" alone? - and that's why there is a drug problem. Drug addiction is a socially infectious disease. Those persons who had never tried drugs, and in the course of their normal life never would have tried marijuana, would be put at risk with premature legalization.

IOW, you're gonna be an ol' man when you will be able to go to the "quickie-mart" and buy a pack of "Beasters".

You skipped all the medical marijuana posts?

None of them said Joe Toke was sick, smoked marijuana, and felt better, so therefore marijuana is good medicine ... deceptive deleter.

Mentally ill people [...] seek others to medicate with - who wants to "toke" alone? - and that's why there is a drug problem.

So the only people who seek to share drugs are mentally ill? I'd be fascinated to see the proof for this startling claim.

Mostly yes. Self medicating, mentally ill persons tend seek like minded company. Or as my father used to say: "People who like that sort of thing, tend to like that sort of thing." Whether it's booze, pot, meth or smack, it's all bad if you're crazy. Until the mentally ill are back in institutions where they belong, for their protection and the publics, legalizing pot would be dopey public policy.

If the CMHC act of 1963 is ever repealed, then it's a maybe.

Your statement (if true) proves only that mentally ill drug users mostly share drugs ... it does nothing to prove your claim that most people who seek to share drugs are mentally ill. Do you have any proof for that claim?

Do you have any proof for that claim?

Yes. The increase of drug abuse and its attendant rise in crimes of property, violence and murder since the passage of the Community Mental Health Centers Act of 1983 and the end of institutionalizing the mentally ill. This act was the beginning of the phenomenon known as the "60's" and all its attendant evils since then. Especially drugs and drug violence and smuggling. The Heroin poppies that now grow in the fields of Afghanistan, can be traced to the policy of letting the mentally ill to live in the streets.

Look, I know you enjoy your pot, and as long as you don't encourage others who do not smoke now to smoke with you, I don't personally care what you do. But the fact remains that many people who are now in prison or homeless on the street is due to the lack of treatment of their mental illness and their introduction to, and the use of, illegal drugs.

You're getting somewhat closer to proof, but still a long way to go ... now if you can show that the numerical increase in drug users is not substantially larger than the number of persons released by that act, we'll have something to talk about. Otherwise you'll have failed to account for the former number.
