Mexican president criticizes increased U.S. border enforcement
Corpus Christi Caller-Times/AP ^ | December 13, 2005 | OLGA R. RODRIGUEZ

MONTERREY, Mexico- President Vicente Fox on Wednesday criticized the United States' decision to strengthen its border security and complete a wall along the border, calling it "shameful and embarrassing."

"This situation we're seeing, a shameful, embarrassing moment where walls are being built, security systems are being reinforced, and human and labor rights are being violated more and more, won't protect the economy of the United States," Fox said.

On Monday, a U.S. federal judge lifted the final legal barrier allowing for the completion of a border fence along the Mexico-California border. Plans call for two additional fences running parallel to the existing steel barrier, with sensors and cameras tracking any movement. The fences will run along the final 3 1/2 miles of the border before it meets the Pacific Ocean.

Last month, President George W. Bush said he was providing border agents with cutting-edge technology like overhead surveillance drones and infrared cameras. In October, Bush signed a $32 billion homeland security bill for 2006 that included 1,000 additional Border Patrol agents.

"It would be hard to know what would happen to the economy of the United States if it wasn't for the enormous contribution, the productivity, the quality of work of our countrymen in that country," Fox said.

Speaking in the border city of Reynosa, across from Hidalgo, Texas, Fox said he remained hopeful the United States will approve a temporary guest worker program next year.

Bush has proposed a temporary guest worker program, but that plan envisions having most workers return after up to six years working in the United States. Mexico is pushing for more permanent, legal residence for many of the millions of undocumented Mexicans living and working in the United States.

"What the United States needs is a young (work) force, energy, quality, productivity, which is what keeps that economy competitive and the only way it can stop losing jobs to Asia, to China," Fox added.

Fox also said Mexico, the United States and Canada need to work together to protect the region's jobs to remain competitive against other trade blocks around the world. He said his government will continue to insist on the protection of the rights of Mexicans working abroad.

Fox was in Reynosa supervising the Paisano Program, a government effort to clamp down on corrupt public officials and welcoming Mexican migrants coming home for the holidays.

Why doesn't Mexico just provide them jobs then, Prisedente? Simple, no?

Fox may be more concerned with the effect better border control may have on the Mexican Drug Industry. Perhaps he could be persuaded to pump more oil?

What should be "shameful and embarrassing", Fox, is the fact that your country's economy is so pathetic that 40% of your population wants to move to the United States, and that Mexico's second-largest source of income is American money sent back by your illegal migrants.

Maybe someone should ask El Presidente what Mexico does with illegal aliens who are caught in Mexico.

What is shameful and embarrassing about the unchecked hemorrhage of his people streaming illegally across his northern border in search of a better life than they can hope to find or live at home?
El Presidente is the one that should be ashamed and embarrassed .
But he is not . Why?

Fox should be ashamed and embarrassed at how he treats the citizens of the country he calls himself the leader of, no jobs, no hope, no future....but there is a whole lot of corruption, drug running and a country run by thugs

Fox is right, it is embarrassing to have so many of your citizens fleeing your maggot eaten country. Like the great wall of China and Hadrian's wall, a border fence will serve us well to keep the undesirable illegals out.

I'm willing to take my chances.

Wonder what Foxy will be up to once his term has ended?

I hope when House and Senate debate the illegal issue they will decide NOT to allow anchor babies, if the mother is here illegally she shouldn't be rewarded by giving American citizenship to her baby.

If the babies aren't given automatic citizenship than there wouldn't be that many of them coming here illegally!

What's shameful and embarrassing is that we don't have a President who'd dope-slap him for saying that.

I truly think that the government of Mexico knows EXACTLY what it's doing. That's the problem. Illegal's from Mexico have the Mexican government stamp of approval.

There was an article in the El Paso Times a couple weeks ago where Americans going into Mexico had to pick up a form in El Paso, then register at a check point 20 miles or so in (I forgot the exact distance), and leave a cash deposit before being allowed to proceed.

All that is needed is to apply Mexico's laws to Mexicans crossing into the U.S.

I would love to hear them scream and cry about how unfair their laws are!

No mention of what "extraordinary steps" are employed on Mexico's southern border to keep illegals out.

What we need is a President with the BALLS to tell Vincente to go to hell! The immigration problem is beyond belief. When the hell are our politicians going to wake up and be AMERICANS! I, for one, am dammed tired of this crap. Both political parties share the blame in this regard.

Perhaps if el Presidente would keep his illegals on HIS side of the border, we wouldn't have to take these measures.

Lemme make a little change in that:

Obviously Vincente Fox doesn't understand the "he can KISS MY A**" approach.

Vincente is no different than any other third world commie leader that blames all of his country's ills on America.

It is beyond me why President Bush, (who I like and respect for just about everything else), remains best buds with and cowtows to vincente.

Vincente would stick a knife in his back (literally and figuratively) just as quickly as Hugo, Osama or Saddam would.
