Pelosi: 'The American People Are Paying a Big Price for the Republican Culture of Corruption
Pelosi via US Newsire ^ | 12/14/05 | Press Release

WASHINGTON, Dec. 14 /U.S. Newswire/ -- House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi joined other Democratic leaders at a press stakeout this morning after the Democratic Caucus meeting to discuss the Republican inaction on critical issues facing the American people. Below are Pelosi's remarks:

"Our distinguished Democratic Whip, Steny Hoyer, and I sent a letter to Speaker Hastert on Monday. In the letter, we said that this Congress should not adjourn until we address some of the immediate needs of the American people. Three of them are connected to the culture of corruption and cronyism in this Republican Congress.

"First of all, as winter is bearing down and bills are coming in for high heating costs, Democrats are calling upon the Speaker to bring to the floor our bill that would reverse the subsidies to the oil companies. At a time when oil companies are experiencing enormous, obscene, historic profits -- obscene because they are increased by subsidies passed this year by this Congress, we want to reverse those subsidies and use the money instead to subsidize home heating oil for low-income families and seniors in our country.

"While seniors are befuddled and bewildered in by a prescription drug bill, which was passed under an ethical cloud it's very clear that corruption in Congress has a price to be paid by the American people. And so we're saying to the Speaker: 'Let us not go home until we extend the time that seniors have to review the prescription drug bill without having to pay penalties as is the current law.'

"And third of all, the issue of cronyism cost lives, limbs, and livelihoods of the people in the Gulf Coast states and we should not leave here until we appropriately address the needs of the survivors of Hurricane Katrina. Congressman Gene Taylor has a bill that would help with housing. We ask that his bill be taken up so that people can soon have some stability in their lives and go home. We do this with great urgency and hope that the Speaker would be responsive.

"Later in the week, we will be doing our wrap-up of this Congress and the missed opportunities for the American people. But the issue of the culture of corruption and cronyism, culture of cover-up and incompetence is one that is sad in itself, but also because the American people have to pay a big price for that."

This is the standard MO for the dems when there is about to be a report about THEM which shows all kinds of corruption [the Barrett Report - re Cisneros] - the dems go on the offensive and start complaining about all the corruption on the other side of the isle.

Believe me .. there appears to be enough corruption garbage to go around.

Don't be fooled by Pelosi's comments - she is continuing the "everybody does it" routine just to blunt the findings in the Barrett Report.

Check Tony Snow's website - he has a lot of info about it and Tony has already been told there is very, very damaging stuff in it about DEMOCRATS!!

Great, no democrat has ever played partisan politics, nor have they given out politial appointments.

Didn't Time Warner give this woman a huge party in her honor during the Democratic Convention?

Great Nancy, thank you for being so above board and ethical.........good grief.

According to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, Team Majority reported 16 contributions of $5,000 each from donors who had already given the maximum to Pelosi's other PAC. Five of the donors gave to both PACs on the same day.

Rather than referring the case to the Justice Department for prosecution, however, the FEC allowed Pelosi's two committees to negotiate "conciliation agreements" under which they were fined a total of $21,000.

Imagine, a D'Allisandro calling someone else corrupt.

I think I figured out why she uses the word corruption so much in reference to the Bush Admin...it muddies up the Google responses on "Pelosi, corruption" searches.

They should extend the session of Congress to give Pelosi a chance to announce her resignation. She's disgusting.

Things are already stretched so tight that he'll have to put his knee at the back of her head and pull - HARD - with both hands to get anymore stretch out of the old hag's skin.

One more face lift and you won't have to draw the goatee on her picture anymore...

As I sit here freezing in my basement I know that it has to be Bush's fault.

Notice that we don't hear anything from Al Gore at this time of year.

Oh. So she phwammed a big headline in order to whine about her usual litany of complaints. If she's doing this, obviously, no one's listening to her usual complaints. Good reason why.
