WASHINGTON, Dec. 14 /U.S. Newswire/ -- House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi joined other Democratic leaders at a press stakeout this morning after the Democratic Caucus meeting to discuss the Republican inaction on critical issues facing the American people. Below are Pelosi's remarks:
"Our distinguished Democratic Whip, Steny Hoyer, and I sent a letter to Speaker Hastert on Monday. In the letter, we said that this Congress should not adjourn until we address some of the immediate needs of the American people. Three of them are connected to the culture of corruption and cronyism in this Republican Congress.
"First of all, as winter is bearing down and bills are coming in for high heating costs, Democrats are calling upon the Speaker to bring to the floor our bill that would reverse the subsidies to the oil companies. At a time when oil companies are experiencing enormous, obscene, historic profits -- obscene because they are increased by subsidies passed this year by this Congress, we want to reverse those subsidies and use the money instead to subsidize home heating oil for low-income families and seniors in our country.
"While seniors are befuddled and bewildered in by a prescription drug bill, which was passed under an ethical cloud it's very clear that corruption in Congress has a price to be paid by the American people. And so we're saying to the Speaker: 'Let us not go home until we extend the time that seniors have to review the prescription drug bill without having to pay penalties as is the current law.'
"And third of all, the issue of cronyism cost lives, limbs, and livelihoods of the people in the Gulf Coast states and we should not leave here until we appropriately address the needs of the survivors of Hurricane Katrina. Congressman Gene Taylor has a bill that would help with housing. We ask that his bill be taken up so that people can soon have some stability in their lives and go home. We do this with great urgency and hope that the Speaker would be responsive.
"Later in the week, we will be doing our wrap-up of this Congress and the missed opportunities for the American people. But the issue of the culture of corruption and cronyism, culture of cover-up and incompetence is one that is sad in itself, but also because the American people have to pay a big price for that."
Republicans, as most of us do, make some poor choices.
But, compared to the mistakes Democrats make, Pub's are pikers.
In God We Trust.
The pot calling the kettle black. If I had a dollar for every politician linked to a corporate board or lobby I'd heat my home with the doors wide open.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed that during her next face-lift the doctor "accidentally" sews her mouth shut. She'd sound halfway intelligent that way.
America is currently suffering the destructive legacy of eight years of Clintonistas - the most corrupt administration, president and first lady in U.S. History.
The phrase "Culture of Corruption and TREASON" belongs to the Leftist Democrat party. Pelosi deflects the truth by projection. THROW IT BACK INTO HER rotten face - if you have any true convictions, you Republican congressmen! Pelosi ain't no lady - she's a provocative party hack. The best antidote for bully mouth Pelosi is to shout her down with the truth. And make it an UGLY REBUTE so it'll attract the MEDIA. Republican silence is assent to insults?
That would be hard for the doctor to do. Things are already stretched so tight that he'll have to put his knee at the back of her head and pull - HARD - with both hands to get anymore stretch out of the old hag's skin.
Am I the ONLY one to see the similarities?
When she was Democratic Whip!!!
When she was Democratic Whip!!!

Former president calls Rich pardon 'disgraceful'
02/21/2001 - Updated 01:46 AM ET
AMERICUS, Ga. (AP) Former President Carter said Tuesday that Bill Clinton abused his power and brought disgrace to the White House with his last-minute pardon of fugitive Marc Rich.
"I think President Clinton made one of his most serious mistakes in the way he handled the pardon situation the last few hours he was in office," Carter said during a speech at Georgia Southwestern State University. "A number of them were quite questionable, including about 40 not recommended by the Justice Department."
Of the Rich pardon, Carter said: "I don't think there is any doubt that some of the factors in his pardon were attributable to his large gifts. In my opinion, that was disgraceful."
Clinton has insisted there was nothing wrong with his pardon of Rich, who until then had been wanted by the Justice Department for allegedly evading more than $48 million in taxes, fraud and illegal oil deals with Iran.
The pardon is the subject of U.S. congressional hearings and a criminal investigation by federal prosecutors in New York.
Carter, who left office in 1981, said he pardoned about 500 people during his four years in the White House, most of those in the first three years, and none during the final weeks of his term.
"I never pardoned anyone whose pardon was not recommended to me after a complete investigation by the Justice Department," Carter said.
Item 1: Balanced budget and Presidential Line Item Veto
Item 2: Tougher criminal sentencing and realistic death penalty provisions.
Item 3: Prohibiting welfare to minor mothers, limiting amounts of time on welfare (partly fufilled).
Item 4: Laws to reinforce the central role of families in American society.
Item 5: Child tax credit and eliminating marriage penalty. (partially done)
Item 6: No US troops under U.N., restoration of funding (partially done).
Item 7: Repeal tax on SS, raise earning limit. (? don't know, but I think this tax wasn't ever repealed)
Item 8: "Small business incentives, capital gains cut and indexation, neutral cost recovery, risk assessment/cost-benefit analysis, strengthening the Regulatory Flexibility Act and unfunded mandate reform to create jobs and raise worker wages."
Item 9: Tort reform and "loser pays".
Item 10: Term limits on Congresscritters.
Most of these were in proposed legislation that died under Clinton and his Dem Senate, and haven't been heard of again, now that Republicans hold both houses and the Executive.
Funny, I just heard Harry "the body" Reid saying that Bush just keeps repeating the same thing--stay the course, stay the course, stay the course--over and over again. (Consistency is a character flaw if you're a Democrat). Now I notice Nancy "Gasbag" Pelosi is saying "culture of corruption, ure of corruption, ure of corruption over and over again. Hypocritical? Hmmmm. I report, you decide.
BTW there's nothing inconsistent in my point about consistency. In W's case, he's staying with a principled position, backing his words with action. In the Demo case, they are utilizing the ultimate propoganda method: if you repeat the lie often enough, no matter how big the lie, it becomes truth (especially when media lapdogs provide the 24/7 echo chamber).
Back to you.
BINGO!
The Democrat Culture of Corruption is available free.
Then whine about a Republican 'culture of corruption', which the Alien Media Nation reports as a point of fact instead of a baseless charge. Gotta love it.
I will say that I think they've done a good job on most of these points--"partially done" is as good as we can expect from any congress, so I consider those items as fulfilled as they're ever gonna be.
#1 isn't needed as far as W is concerned, and I have to wonder about how wise a choice it is. I have a feeling congress will never pass it. As things are now, they and W seem to negotiate these things--not properly, to my view, but that's their agreement. I don't see Congress giving up on that one.
#2 I don't have a comment on.
#3 Partly fulfilled
#4 This is so nebulous that there is no way it could ever be completely fulfilled. If there were specific laws noted that could be argued, but it's kind of a mushy feel-good item in this context.
#5 Partly fulfilled
#6 Partly fulfilled
#7 I haven't many complaints (some) about Republicans and taxes
#8-10 The one I'm most interested in seeing happen here is #10. I used to be against term limits. I've since seen the light. Too bad this one is the one that's most surely doomed of the ten.
All in all, they've done about as well with this list as can be expected. These ARE politicians we're talking about.
Beat me to it. Like minds....
UFB.
Right. And everything Nancy knows about corruption she learned from Denise Rich
