Blizzard victims are victims of blizzards. Flood victims are victims of floods. I have never said contrary.
What I am sayign is that the Blizzard mentioned in the attempt at humor in this thread was not as serious as the NOLA flood. The comparison is silly.
lol Yep I do, and I've lived in those states (was Born in Savannah GA, lived throughout the South most of my life). So they can't tell me what I don't already know.
I just know that people who want to depend on guvmint to do for them will always be victims. Those who choose to be self reliant and free will NEVER ask Guvmint to do for them.
My Parents and grandparents went through countless hurricanes and a few floods. I don't remember ever hearing them say "The guvmint came and gave us all trailers, 200 dollars to spend and a bus ride to Raleigh" EVER.
Victims will always be victims.
Some are that way intentionally, others are truly victims because they are too weak to care for themselves. Those are the only ones who should be helped.
Don't try to tell me what hurricanes are or do. I've been through far more of them and Typhoons that you can imagine.
The difference in the 2 areas is the victim mentality. If it doesn't apply to you then why do you defend it?
And I don't have to announce to the world how superior I am to sick elderly people in a flooded nursing home to be that way.
when you say it is not as serious, you make the distinction that one is a victim and one is not. At the very least you make the distinction that one is MORE of a victim than the other.
THE ONLY THING that makes that statement true is the actions of each person in each situation because BOTH will and DO cause people to loce their lives and or their posessions, Tornadoes do that very same thing.
You dismiss blizzards and claim the hurricane was so much worse. It wasn't the hurricane at all it was the flooding. Flooding is not a new topic in NOLA....surely you will agree with that.....yet you will say that blizzards aren't a new topic in areas prone to such events.
The only reason there were victims in NOLA is because people didn't listen to warnings they were given and in addition they expected others to care FOR them instead of taking actions to care for themselves. They aren't victims of a flood or a hurricane or even a blizzard, they are victims of their own choices.

My reference was to those boneheaded idiots between 20 and 30 who were fit, walking around and cussing the government and Pres Bush because their freaking asses didn't get taken out of NOLA.
If they were that healthy and had that much warning in advance, they by god could have walked.
but instead, like all people like that, they chose to become victims.

The folks in Miss did it right. They got hammered BAD, but they didn't bitch or complain.
Now, before you start claiming that people don't know what they are talking about, maybe you should take a look at the post and READ it before opening your mouth.
I have BEEN through these storms before. Bad ones, I've had to live weeks without electricity and water other than what we had stowed up. I've been part of rescue efforts up and down the south east coast.
I Know alot more about what I am talking about than you think.
If you don't like the post, there's a simple solution to it.

Growing up in northern North Dakota there were plenty of blizzards.
Not once did I think the Feds would ever show up...where's my retroactive $2,000 w/interest?
I can see that your ignorance will continue, so I'll just end this useless conversation.
1) The hurricane didn't actually hit NOLA. It veered east--just imagine the damage if it veered west or hit straight on.
2) So it was the aftermath? So what? The hurricane caused it. This is akin to those idiots who like to say "It wasn't the bullet that killed him, it was his heart stopping." Just a useless attempt at humor.
3) There weren't that many trees left. The point is that a hurricane is essentially a large tornado. By the way, I live just below the start of Tornado Alley. I've seen plenty of tornado damage. You haven't been through the aftermath of Rita. There were over 100 tornadoes caused by Rita. Most damage in hurricanes is caused by wind not water. These two just happened to have massive storm surges that devastated the LA coast.
4) Nearly a dozen refineries were off line for nearly a month between Mississippi to East Texas. A huge number of off shore drilling rigs still haven't started back up. Nobody said a quarter of the nation's oil supply was shut down. It was majorly at risk and was diminished more than an "iota".
Most of my family in Louisiana works in chemical plants or refineries or in one case the National Petroleum Reserve in Hackberry, LA. Explain to me why they had time to go on vacations or long hunting trips while they were supposed to be working. It surely wasn't becasue they took time off.
5) For the first few weeks after Katrina the produce around here was really cheap because the lower Mississippi had taken so much damage that large freight ships couldn't pass securely enough into the gulf for the comfort of bond and insurance companies. All those food exports got dispered around Texas and a few other states. You think that didn'f affect the national economy? By the way:
6) just because you can formulate an argument with flimsy and/or imagined facts doesn't mean that other people will let you dish it out without replying. Your fatalism and desire to denigrate your fellow citizens is astounding. The fact that it got really cold in the WY and ND is regrettable but by all means a "normal event". FEMA showed up because what happened in Mississippi, Louisiana and Texas was a national emergency.
Ever hear of the flood in Grand Forks where the city had to be evacuated?
Blizzards and Floods...we get them both.
