Zogby: Democrats Have 'Substantial Lead'
A key measurement of partisan advantage in the United States Congress shows Democrats with a substantial lead in public opinion as the nation heads into 2006 and the important mid-term election season, a new Zogby International survey shows.
Asked if they would "definitely" or "probably" vote for the Democrat or Republican in next year's fall congressional election, 48% said the Democrat would get their support, compared to 40% who said they would vote for the Republican. While 3% said they plan on supporting a third-party candidate, 9% said they were unsure.
The year-end survey by Zogby International included 1013 interviews nationwide, and carries a margin of error of
plus or minus 3.1 percentage points.
The poll shows weakness for Republicans among demographic groups that are typically supportive. In "red" states that favored George W. Bush in the presidential election last year, generic congressional Republicans hold a 46% to 43% advantage over their generic Democratic counterparts. But in "blue" states won by Democrat John Kerry last year, the Democratic lead is much larger - there the congressional Democrat leads by a 54% to 34% margin.
Republicans hold a narrow 45% to 43% lead over Democrats among married respondents, who typically favor Republicans by much larger margins. Catholics, whose support for Mr. Bush last year was of key importance, now support congressional Democrats by ten percent, 45% to 35%.
The survey shows that, should President Bush campaign for a congressional candidate, 51% of self-identified independents would be less likely to support that candidate, while just 22% would be more likely to support him. Vice President Cheney has a similar effect.
I'll file this with the Zogby "report" that Kerry was leading Bush in exit polls.
Didn't Zogby report the same thing about Gore in 2000 and Kerry in 2004?
Right. The same guy who told us Nov 2, 2004 about the "Kerry Landslide" that was happening at the polls. Just more Democrat spin from a Democrat Activist.
Lead in their heads, lead in their butts, . . .
democrats win polls, republicans win elections
Ok so people aren't happy with the Republicans, that's understandable.
But the problem is during the campaigns, the Democrats are going to start opening their mouths, and then the voters will realize that the Democrats are even worse.
Whatever, the election is a year away.
I'm glad it's Zogby that came up with this. The past few years have shown us that Zogby's work is not based on reality.
Not with Diebold on our side! lol...
I thought Zogby was the only one who got the 2000 election spot on? I could be wrong?
Just take the average percent off and direction of correction in the past 4 elections from Zogby's polls, factor those into this poll and the results completely flip.
(Denny Crane: "I Don't Want To Socialize With A Pinko Liberal Democrat Commie.Say What You Like About Republicans. We Stick To Our Convictions. Even When We Know We're Dead Wrong.")
LOLOL.......substantial lead in the line for the men's room?
I was wondering what the TOP STORY would be with the MSM TV crowd tonight.
This is it. Another Poll.
Actually if you deconstruct Zog it make sense. Democrats are leading in the Blue States by a larger margin then Republicans are leading in the Red States. Problem for Dems, lots more Congressional/Senate Seats are going to come from the Red States. So the NUMBERS proably aren't suspect but the SPIN that Zog puts on it sure is an obvious fraud! Doesn't do the Dems a lot of good to win 70-30 in NY and CA only to lose everything else.
