Room the interview is conducted in is the room he'll spend evenings in. Preparing policy or speeches, read a book...
Any Prez he thinks about a lot? Abraham Lincoln. Hey, that's the President I compare him most too.
It's stressful but not as stressful as what Lincoln went through with Americans killing Americans. Read his writings, reflective of great Faith.
Once Faith central in your life, it stays central in your life-Prez.
Difference between personal elationship with Almighty, and speculation in soe quarters God is writing policy.
Brit-some people believe God chose him.
prez- Believes the American people chose him, knocked on a lot of doors. LOL
On legacy-
Be remembered as a person that had his priorities straight. faith, family, friends.
Used life to fullest.
Spread freedom to world.
Bless this dear man, his priorities couldn't be more right!
Tell me about this room and when you use it.
>> We are on the second floor of the white house. Right down the hall is laura and i bedroom. Other end of the hall is the lincoln bedroom, what's called the queen's room. This is an upstairs office. And I come up here to read my paperwork or to read a book or to make phone calls. I spend a lot of time here. Brit: You are up here not only during the evening but during the day?
>> Not during the day. Sometimes i come over here if -- say i come over here at 4 :30, 5:00 or walk on tomorrow's policy initiative that I'm going to have to be prepared for and run upstairs and exercise before dinner. Brit: And talk to me a little bit
>> This room is present with president presidents. Are there any past days that you think about a lot?
>> That is abera ham lincoln. I think about him because some of my friends from texas say gosh, it must be a stressful time for you. And if you really put my life in perspective, one it's not stressful and not stressful compared to a president like lincoln went through. He was president during a civil war, which americans were killing americans. And yet during that time, his writings and his speeches reflected a man of great faith and clear vision. And so I think about him. I really dO. My presidency is nothing compared to his. Brit: What about your faith? How is that a factor in your life now? The last time we talked, you indicated it was major central. Is it more so, less so?
>> Once faith is central in your life, it stays central in your life. I read the bible every day. Last time you and i talked, you said how often do you pray? I said as much as necessary or several times a day. People pray in different ways as you know. There is structured prayer in a church service. There is prayer sitting behind this desK. I'm uplifted by the prares of our fellow citizens all the time. And that gives me great strength. And you know, the people i guess speculate about the burden of the office. I feel my burden is lightened by relying upon a higher being. One of the interesting things about the discussion of religion is that there is a difference between a personal relationship with an almighty and this notion in some corners of the world that somehow god is directing public policy out of the white house. And I just -- i don't know why I brought it up, but it amazes that that's even a point of conversation. Brit: There are people who believes that you were personally chosen at this office to do these things. What about that?
>> I was chosen by the american people and I knocked on their doors an awful lot in 2000 and 2004. I believe -- you know there are some people who believe in predestiny. My own personal faith is that personal relationship with the lord strengthens the soul and lifts the spirit. And I do praY. And to the extent that -- to the best extent possible that god's will shines through me as an individual, but i don't subscribe to that god picked me over somebody else. Brit: Let me get your thoughts, mr. President, on how you think or hope you will be remembereD.
>> You mean kind of blank slate me? Brit: Yeah.
>> I hope first as a person I rib remembered as a fellow who had his priority straight. His faith, his family and friends are a central part of his life. Secondly, i hope to be remembered on a personal perspective as a fellow who lived life to the fullest. And I would like to be known as a president that used his influence to spread good throughout the world, by recognizing to whom much has been given and i wasn't afraid to make a decision. Brit:
Thanks for the images, GRRRRR! One certainly would get a sense of history from being in that room!
Panel now coming up.
Just imagine this man, after a long day, retiring up to that room; a study...with some papers to read. He can look up at these fine portraits, think about how Lincoln and other Presidents managed through their own horrible times as President...
It is possible to imagine him receiving counsel from the wisdom of (some) of his predecesors...
G
Mort needs to go back, read the President's speech right after he won election. he spoke directly to people that didn't vote for him. Can't be any clearer than that, amazing their memories are so short.
Can't have any kindness get by without attack.
Oh these dems have nothing left.
Truly that argurment does not make any sense. But it's all they had.
That was the Liberal in Mort coming out. The President announced his intention from the minute he won re-election to every action afterwards. The problem is that Liberals take the idea of bi-partisanship as a sign of weakness. At 52% approval he wasn't weak. Really lite argument M&M were trying to advance.
LOL! They end with the President going over his IPOD selections.
LOL, did you hear the artists on his I-Pod???
I probably would have had most of those selections, myself. But then, I am only a year younger than the President.
I am sending you a freepmail in a few minutes.
A great glimpse into the White House that is not often seen. In fact, I wonder how many times that particular space has ever been shown? It was a fascinating history lesson.
Yeah, I listen to the Golden Oldie's too.
"I could strike back at your all politically, but I'm a better man that you all are?"
Is that what he wanted him to say?
I can see I'm going to have to stay up and watch the rerun of the show.
Yes, you should. I am SO glad I watched it! You will be a happy camper!
