OTTAWA and VANCOUVER — The United States launched an exceptional mid-campaign rebuke yesterday of the Liberal government's constant criticism of the Bush administration, bringing the high level of tensions between the world's two biggest trading partners to the forefront of the Canadian election.

"It may be smart election-year politics to thump your chest and constantly criticize your friend and your No. 1 trading partner. But it is a slippery slope, and all of us should hope that it doesn't have a long-term impact on the relationship," the U.S. ambassador to Ottawa, David Wilkins, said in a tough speech to the Canadian Club at the Chateau Laurier.

the canada of WWII is long gone - the citizens of canada have to ask who is our friend ..if not the USA then WHO?
You have oil and nat gas to hold over USA's head - but don't get too proud of it..things change.

When troops have returned from Iraq they should take out Ottawa and make the 10 provinces and several territories of Canada new states. That would shut up the socialist liberals (all parties in Canada are way left of center) and stop the whining.

Canada has become anti-American. I was astonished to return there last year, only to be treated so rudely by people there just because they do not like our President. (I never told them that I don't like their's either.) I am a gentleman, especiually when I travel as a guest in another country. These Canadians express outright hostility against America and Americans....they make it personal.

What would you expect from a nation that has given asylum to our cowards and traitors for more than two centuries -- oh, and I forgot, to dope dealers and marijuana growers as well. Give us the dynamic Alberta and Saskatchewan and we will trade them the useless Maine and Vermont.
