I am not going to resort to personal abuse. If you don't want Canada mentioned why not come out and say so? Canada was mentioned in the context of multiculturalism and as we all know Canada holds itself up as a model multicultural society. Could you explain why it was wrong to mention Canada in the context of multiculturalism and why it offended you????

You know perfectly well that I wasn't referring to the colloquialism - which doubtless is well known everywhere - but, as I plainly stated, to your 'Canadians' generalization.
Sophistry like this is well beyond the sort one associates with mere liberals and far more akin that preferred by radical feminists. Surely there's a real trollish knack to making enemies within a mere 2 months membership on any forum?

So very very sorry that I have offended you. My profuse apologies. Perhaps at this time of year I have become intoxicated by the warm sunshine and blue skies.

Canada doesn't hold itself up as a multicultural model, it's the liberals that hold up their version of Canada. I suppose it was "wrong" in that we Canuckleheads here on FR don't see Canada this way. Individuals like NZerFromHK seem to get some sort of cheap thrill out of using generalizations that just don't hold water. They may say that Canadians just can't handle Aussie humour. Well, Canadians are quicker than the average bear and we can tell it's a little more than just Aussie humour.

OK, now that was just a cheap shot and totally unnecessary ... given the grey skies and the cold here in Canada right now. ; )

You don't really believe that anyone posting here would vote for Martin? I take your point that it is wrong to link all Canadians together. The reference should have been to the "Canadian liberals" or to the "Canadian Left" and not to "Canadians". I will be interested in your response.

Not at all. Having said that, I'm not sure how you got that from my post.

As I see it you would like us to choose words carefully so that we are seen to be working with you and not against you. That is fine with me.

I am sure everyone will keep 23 January 2006 in mind before uttering a word that could impinge negatively on a certain event on that day.

Yes, generalizations are counter-productive ... and we have an uphill battle here as it is. : )

I know that only too well. We are on the same side.

Fair enough. I shall then use "Canadian leftists and Toryists" to distinguish them from "Canadian conservatives".

The world outside the West is rediscovering pride in its heritage, yet the West is quickly stripping itself from the glorious past that gave it individual liberty and the rule of law. There is no culture as free as Western society. Our culture is superior. The rejection of it will destroy us - in time.

"I am not going to resort to personal abuse.......we
all know Canada holds itself up as a model multicultural society......." 1. By constantly bashing all Canadians and Canada in general
you are resortng to"personal abuse".
2. Your second point "we all know Canada holds...." is another example
of your stupid generalizations. Who is "we". "We" can't refer to Canadians
because I've lived in Canada for 55+ years and have never heard
anyone claim that, so I assume "we" refers to a group of kindred
spirits you hang around with.
You obviously spend way too much time hanging around Canadian
liberal online forums, which makes me question your true
political and philosophical orientation.
Let's put it this way, if you constantly hung around a gay bathhouse
that would be a pretty good indicator of your sexual orientation

You have not only quoted out of context. You have combined pieces from two separate posts and made them sound as one post. It seems you are trying to prevent others from mentioning your country, particularly if they come from Australia or New Zealand, two countries that are part of the Commonwealth and attract comparisons with the country to the north of USA.

Australia or New Zealand, two countries that are part of
the Commonwealth and attract comparisons with the
country to the north of USA. Maybe y'alls would be better to compare your 2 "Commomwealth"
Countries to South Africa and/or India..
That would seem to make more sense to me.
BTW, No one I've ever met in Canada gives a rats ass about the Commonwealth
P.S. Did you notice that I said "no one I've ever met" and not
the generalized "no Canadian gives a rats ass".

CaptainCanada don't waste your time with any more posts to me as this is the last time I reply. If you want to know why, read Plato.
